No...I haven't got a stethoscope yet. Have had a nurse and a doctor both tell me not to spend over $50 on one because they disappear quite often. I, too, am afraid I won't be able to hear well on one- being I think the oldest student!! There is a site called allheart.com with very good prices on them. It also sells watches, shoes, etc.

That is where I am looking... all heart. I heard people get them stolen, but I'm just going to be careful. I couldn't hear anything on the 89.00 Littmann they had at the scrub store. So that won't work for me.

There was a special on there yesterday if you bought one of the more expensive stethoscopes ( one was $140) you would get a bonus student kit free ( $50 value ) and it had a CD in it with heart sounds which I thought might be helpful to a novice. This summer is flying by and I had hoped to do some reading ahead which hasn't happened! Well, I will be ready for a study group come August if anyone else is interested?

Well, I went today and looked at the books and ended up buying most of them at the bookstore. My nephew has a gadget that he can scan the ISBN on a book and see what it is selling for on Amazon, so I did the comparisons and for the little I would have saved on Amazon, I went ahead and took the plunge and spent $368!! I did manage to get several books used (they look new) but there aren't too many used books. There was one of the 1500 books that they did not have in stock there (one that was about $118?) and they did not have the nurse packs yet BUT a nice lady told they were just delivered and would be out soon. I can type out the list of what I got with the ISBN and price at the book store if anyone would like, so you all can shop around. Oh and in case anyone is wondering what the "Perfect Package" is that it says we need on the website and sells for $115 it is a package of 3 books wrapped together and they are Davis's Drug Guide for Nurses 11th Ed by Deglin/Vallerand which includes a CD ROM, Taber's Medical Dictionary 21st Ed and Laboratory and Diagnostic Tests with Nursing Implications 3rd Ed by Van Leewen.

I spoke to a young lady there who just completed the first 8 weeks and said its tough but do-able to get As. She said just to make sure we keep up on the reading assignments! She reccomended the Cardiology III stethoscope. She said with all the noise in lab to make sure you got a good one because its hard to hear.

Oh, and in one of those coupon books that I got in the mail last week, there was a 20% coupon for Binsons, in case anyone else is still looking for their stethoscope.

Well hope this info helps someone and if anyone would like the ISBNs on these books let me know. Several are wrapped and packaged together, so I will only open them if someone would like the ISBN.

Ouch on the price; I bought most of mine today also. Did you buy all the books including the "recommended" but not required books? I have the older edition (5th) of APA manual, so I didn't buy that one either. In addition I bought my son's books for fall quarter. Expensive day
