MCC Nursing student's physical

I am finally setting up an appt for my physical and I'm wondering where everyone got them and how much I should expect to pay? I found out that my insurance won't cover it so I called up Concentra. It will cost me around $229 to have a physical, drug screen and titers done through them. Does that sound right? I am wondering if this is something I can put off till after I start in January (but I'd do it in early January), so I can use next year's health flex account to pay for it. I think I remember that we don't need it until clinicals? Can anyone advise me? TIA . I'd call the school and ask but I don't want to look any dorkier than I already am .

My insurance covered everything, but I heard some people talking about getting their vaccinations through the health department.

I don't recommend waiting until January to take care of it, because around your 4th week of 1530 you'll be doing a 1/2 day at one of the clinical sites. Your physical, titers, drug screen and immunizations MUST be done before this. The Hep B vaccine is the tricky part: you must have at least 2 of the three shots before being allowed to do clinical, and the first two shots are spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Of course, if you have already had the Hep B shots previously this won't be a problem.

Although you didn't ask, I will suggest ordering your uniform asap if you haven't already done so...we still had people who hadn't received theirs yet because they had to exchange them. They run tight so, unless you're a twig, order one size larger than the website suggests for the scrubs. The lab coat sizes seem to be pretty accurate. Good luck!

It's a good thing you mentioned the Hep B shot. I called the health dept today and will get a start on those next week.
