Macomb Community College HESI Exam

I was wondering what a good score on the HESI exam is at Macomb Community College? 50% of this score is factored into the admission process for the RN program and I am wondering with a 4.0 GPA what I have to shoot for to get in or to be competative.

Please advise ASAP! Thanks!

Well, it just depends on how well the rest of the students applying did. I started this August, and the nursing students for the 07/08 school year had (I'm told) the highest ever HESI test scores. I think the lowest HESI that was officially accepted was somewhere around 92 or 94%...and that person had a 4.0.

Last year though, people were getting accepted with a 4.0 and 87%...so it all depends on how the entire group did.

I just got back from taking the HESI for the second time. I only got a 92.84. I really feel that I'm not going to get in, even though I have a 4.0 gpa. I feel devastated. Anybody else out there who has info on what the lowest HESI was last year or could you give me your hesi grade and where you ranked?

I took the Hesi on the 15th. I was the last to leave and was talking to the person while my scores were printing. I was told that for some reason last year the scores were very high and this year they haven't averaged as high. April is so long to wait to find out the results. I would think you have a good chance. Do you know what the bottom 5 scores from last year were?

It seems that last year the Hesi scores were above average. I think anything over a 90% on the test will give you a great shot at getting in, since you have a 4.0 GPA to pair it with.

Hey Puppyrules,
I have 2 Black Lab pups, but I guess that's for a different forum. I got a 95.4% on the Hesi last Saturday.

I don't think you should feel devastated. I met a girl in the library who was in the first year of the program this fall and she told me she was one of the last to get in with "barely a 92%" and a 4.0, but she got in clean (wasn't an alternate).

Here's another reason for you to feel optimistic. I'm looking at my printout right now where it breaks down how you did in each section. I got a 93.6% in the Reading Section. To get that 93% I got 44/47 right. Spread that out over all 4 sections and that's like getting only 12 wrong on a 4 hour test. I doubt 125 people did that. Even if they did, all 125 would need a 4.0 to compete with your gpa.

Personally I think you have a great shot at getting in. I took my Hesi on 11/9 and thought I was doing well. My score was 82, I cried for two weeks. I just took it again at St. Clair yesterday and only scored an 86%, hopefully I have a better shot at getting accepted there.

Good luck, I am sure you will get in.

The last person accepted last year had a 4.0 and a 91.2 or so on the hesi. I think you have a good chance of getting in.

I'm really sorry about your situation. I can totally empathize. I thought about going to St. Clair, too, but it's an hours drive from my house and Macomb is a three minute drive. So anyway, this afternoon, after I posted the update message on allnurses.com, I went to the college to speak with an academic counselor. She was optimistic about my gpa and hesi score. Because I am a nutjob, I also called the Nursing Dept and talked with the secretary of the department. She told me that as of today they are at 133 on the alternates list. I asked her if she would mind sharing with me what #133's hesi score was and she obliged. It was exactly 90. This left me feeling more hopeful.

Thanks to everyone who posted in response to my appeal for sympathy and information.

merry christmas...
