Job Availability

Hello There!I've been reading in some other forums about nursing shortages not necessarily being the case. I'm currently finishing my pre-reqs and applying to nursing schools. I'm curious as to what you guys think (or know) about the hiring situation here in Michigan.I'm located in Ann Arbor and hope to work at either St. Joes or one of the U of M complexes. Any thoughts on the hiring situation?

I recently hired in at St. Joe's as a PCA to gain experience and to help pay for my pre-req's for school. I can't tell you how impressed I am with the St. Joe's system after going through orientation. I know a couple of nurses who work at various St. Joe's campuses and they have nothing but wonderful things to say about the system. I applied through the website:

I also know that U of M is constantly hiring as well. My daughter is a patient at the Congenital Heart Clinic there and she has had wonderful care from the nurses and Physicians there. Good luck with your job search.

I know I made the right choice when I applied at St. Mary Marcy Hospital in Livonia, also part of the Trinity Health System.
I had my interview this morning, and I got hired!!!:hatparty:
This is going to be my first nursing job here in the US. (I'm from Hungary.)
I'm going to start on the medical unit, night shifts.
Which nursing school are you applying to?

Yay! Someone else with Trinity! Most likely I will be going to Schoolcraft for at least my pre-req's. I'm not sure where I will actually apply for clinicals. The waitlists everywhere are crazy. I am considering doing my pre-req's at Schoolcraft and then transfering to a BSN program. A friend of mine graduated from Eastern's BSN program last year and didn't have a wait. It all depends on finances. I don't qualify for any grants for financial aid due to my husband's income and we don't want to take out student loans if we can avoid it. So I guess we will see where we are at in a couple of years and proceed from there.

What kind of process did you have to go through, coming from another country, to work in the States? Did you just have to take the MI Boards? Good luck with your new job!
