How much are experienced RN's making?

by RNCCHP

I was wondering how much experienced RN's make in Michigan. I will be moving to the Bay City/Saginaw area within the next year and want to know what kind of wages to expect.

I have 7 years experience and am making $29.56 per hr + 7% shift diff for midnights. If I work 300 hrs on the off shift I get a additional $300 every 3 months. I also work in Detroit.

Look into agency nursing in that area. You can make between 38-42$/hour.

I am a pre-nursing student but I am curious what is an agency nurse? Why would somebody pay you more if you worked for an agency and not directly for them! I guess I just don't understand! I am very curious, can someone fill me in please?

Hi RN2B73. An agency nurse works for a staffing agency and basically works in departments that are not staffed adequetly. There are 2 types of agency nurses. 1-A local agency nurse, like myself, that works close to home in one or more different settings. 2-A traveling nurse usually works more than 50 miles away from home and is usually contracted for 13 weeks, 3 12 hour shifts per week. Travel nurses, which I did one year out of nursing school, get paid between 25-45 dollars per hour and are placed in a furnished apartment with utilities and rent paid by the staffing agency. (It is awesome) Typically, local agency nurses make more per hour because you do not get the furnished apartment. Also, as a travel nurse you usually get full benefits and day 1 health insurance. Agency nurses exist purely on the shortage of nurses. When you graduate, get involved in critical care nursing. This will give you more oppurtunities in the world of agency nursing. I hope this answered some questions for you. -Nick

Hi, i will be starting RN/ADN Program at MCC this march. I have not had any experience in health care.

I would like to go for travel or contract nursing, just like some of you guys. Can anyone advise me? Please let me know if ADN/RN will be enough or do i need BSN? Also, can I get in to contract or travel nursing right out of ADN/RN program or do i need experience? if so how much of experience and and in what area of nursing.

Thanks in advance.
