hourly rate


Hello. I am currently working in Chicago and we are planning to move to Michigan to be closer to family. I am just wondering if someone can give me an idea how much base rate would be for Med Surg BSN nurse. I make around $35 right now and I've been a nurse for 15 years. I'm just hoping the pay cut won't be that bad.... We're looking to move to Royal Oaks/Birmingham area.

You have a lot of years of experience. I think you'll find the rate for the amount of experience you have to be the same if not more among hospitals in the Southeast Michigan area. Some of the senior nurses at work make around the same hourly pay as you do and they have less years of nursing experience.

I would think the pay would be close to what you are making now. I don't know what top pay scale is though.

Birmingham/Royal Oak is a nice area. Any idea where you want to work?

wow....I'm sorry, but even for Chicago, you are being VERY underpaid. I have 20 MONTHS experience, working within chicago city limits and I make very little less than you.

I would imagine your pay should go UP when you move to Michigan.

Most of the hospitals are in the same pay range due to the competitive market within the metro area right now. There are several major expansions taking place that will continue to provide plentiful job opportunities, which is additive to the general shortage in the profession.

With your experience start calling some recruitors around your intended locale (Beaumont, Henry Ford-W. Bloomfield, etc) and you will have no problems.

I'd say that you're being paid quite well NICU RN....I don't recall the pay being that much higher than what he's already be paid in MI. I just moved from there and some of our senior nurses(20+ years) were only making around $35 an hour.

Pay depends on where you live. The cost of living in Chicago is higher than Michigan so nurses will be paid more there.

I started working at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and the payscale is no different than Beaumont and I worked at Beaumont for five years, the max pay there is about 35 bucks/hour.

I make about $33/hr with 10 yrs experience in the NICU in the DMC. $2 more on weekends and the off shift diff depends on nights or afternoons. Good luck with your search ( I love working in detroit, so if you like the urban setting, come on down!)
