HFCC Nursing Program waitlist????

by RN2B73

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone else out there is on the waitlist for the HFCC Nursing Program and when you think you'll be called. I went on the waitlist back in December 07 and was told I'd more than likely be called for winter 09 but I've had other students tell me they were called sooner than anticipated.

Same thing for me I was put on the waitlist in dec. They told me probably winter 09. I'm hoping for sooner. but I also figure the winter would give me more time to save up. I'm just anxious to start.

I've been on the wait list since June '07 and Michelle Zeid told me to expect to be called up for this Fall. Crossin' my fingers.

Hey, i got on the list may 17, 07 and lorraine and mitchell told me that i will be going in Aug (FALL)08.
I talked to the people in the nursing office and they told me that letters go out next week and that they were on those who postponed for winter(JAN)08. SO that;s all i know but, i know for a fact that i will be in FALL 08. and don't worry honey you will not wait no longer than 1-1/2year

Hi HFCC student on the waiting list,

I received my letter in FEB/2008, went to the orientation session on March 14, 2008. The number of students that attended the 1st pick were just 35 student. They were just the fist 35 student on the 1st pick. I was told they will be mailing more letter soon. But I need to tell you that their was some student who haven't completed their BIO 234 at all. And some decline enrollment last year, but still received a letter again for enrollment this year.

Also, I received a letter from "Henry Ford Health System(HFHS) to enroll in the accelerated (16 months) program for this May, due to open spots. But if accepted you have to work 3 years for your tuition for them. I decline on that offer, because you have to have some money up front. Wish I didn't have a penny. My hope is to pay for my summer class that I already register for, and hope again that I get a scholarship this fall/2008.

I am almost done with my first year of nursing @ HFCC (2 more weeks!!!!)
and here's some info I can pass along to the newbies.

If you start in the Winter semester, u go straight thru without a break and will graduate with the Fall classmates. If you have all of your coreq's done, this will work. But as demanding as the program is, it is wise to have all classes completed so you can just focus on the nursing courses.

You can postpone for one full year, I did this so I could finish up my coreq's and I am SO glad I did. This program is 'fast and furious' and leaves little time for anything else. If you work, try not to work more than part-time or else you will be majorly sleep deprived. Those who work full-time usually want the 2 day section. It is 2 long days but those I know like it. But most importantly, keep a strict study schedule, it is alot of information to master in a short time plus you have lots of clinical paperwork. It's an awesome program, the staff are wonderful and are there to help. Please use their office hours and always review your tests.
Do not erase answers, always go with your gut. It is easy to read into the questions and there is nothing comparable to a nursing test. After a few tests, you get the hang of what of what you should focus on when studying. But 80% is passing and when going into the cumulative finals, you want to be sitting higher than that. So I disagree that thinking C=RN.
If you pass with a C - excellent, you passed, but you don't want an 80 going into a final.

Those that are able to do the accelerated program have a safety net, if they fail out, they automatically go to the traditional program.

Good luck and enjoy your free time! Do not try to prepare when you haven't started yet cuz you will be doing nothing but nursing when you do begin!

Everything Amybeth says is very true, BUT I do know a current student who went into the 155 final (last 8 weeks) with a 76 and PASSED!! I was soooooo happy for this individual.

Hi,
I am currently at HFCC trying to get done with my pre-reqs so I can put my name on the waitlist. I still have Eng 132, Bio 131 and the NET (taking 6/9) left I think, and THEN I will be qualified for the waitlist.

HFCC told me (in fact, I think it was Michelle Zeid), that once placed on the list you have 6-18 mos. She said very rarely do they have anyone any longer than a year and a half. Which is unlike Washtenaw Community College. Be VERY thankful you are not on their list.... it's 3-4yrs currently!!!! Who can wait that long? Especially when you could go to Eastern Michigan and get your BSN in 4yrs, instead of waiting on a list to get your ADN???

Does anyone have any tips for me????? I am still at the very beginning stages, and I am doing my best to make sure I am preparing for my wait. I am so afraid I will forget to do something or be unaware of something and end up having a longer than necessary wait!! I plan on taking all of my co-req classes while waiting... Soc 131, Anatomy, etc. So that way when I am off the waitlist I will only have my nursing classes and clinicals.

Good luck to everyone waiting for their letter!! I wish I could just get my name on that stupid list!!!
