You could always get your Hep B shot. That takes 5 months. I really can't think of anything else unless you plan on getting your Bachelors. If so, you could take microbiology and get it out of the way. You could always pick up an NCLEX review book and go thru that in your down time.

HFCC told me (in fact, I think it was Michelle Zeid), that once placed on the list you have 6-18 mos. She said very rarely do they have anyone any longer than a year and a half. Which is unlike Washtenaw Community College. Be VERY thankful you are not on their list.... it's 3-4yrs currently!!!! Who can wait that long? Especially when you could go to Eastern Michigan and get your BSN in 4yrs, instead of waiting on a list to get your ADN???

Does anyone have any tips for me????? I am still at the very beginning stages, and I am doing my best to make sure I am preparing for my wait. I am so afraid I will forget to do something or be unaware of something and end up having a longer than necessary wait!! I plan on taking all of my co-req classes while waiting... Soc 131, Anatomy, etc. So that way when I am off the waitlist I will only have my nursing classes and clinicals.

Good luck to everyone waiting for their letter!! I wish I could just get my name on that stupid list!!!

Any advice on how to get a job at a hospital without experience? Haha.. But seriously, I really want to get in and get some experience and a feel for the environment, etc. Also, I have heard about tuition reimbursement and the accelerated program, etc. It just seems as though working at a hospital while waiting to get in and through the program would be extrememly beneficial.

I have been checking ALL of the local hospital job sites, and so far I am not qualified for anything!! There seem to be a lot of jobs that require at least 1-yr in a hospital or medical setting, which I don't have... or a CNA... or a Med Asst... etc. I was hoping to find something like a patient transporter or some type of clerical/scheduling position, but I am not seeing anything like that. And the few I have seen require experience in their scheduling software, etc.

I am becoming so frusterated!! Any ideas?

the U of M is a teaching hospital, just apply to all!! Plebotomy (drawing blood) is another thing to think about it gets you in the door and on the floor! Also remember even if you take a position you dont nessicarily LOVE you can always move around once you are in. Good luck!

So even if I don't have the required qualifications I can still apply for a position?

I guess it doesn't hurt... I just thought that if they listed stuff like knowledge of software, 1+yr experience in a medical setting, etc that I would have to have those qualifications... I assume if they say you need to be certified in say, Medical Assisting or Nurses Aide that I shouldn't bother, right?

Patience and Persistance. I was on the wait list since March 07 and I because I knew that Fall letters go out in Feb/March I'd be a no go for the Fall 08 program. I went to the Nursing office and spoke with L and M who told me to expect a letter in early October for winter 08. Well October 15 rolled around and still--Nothing. I went back to find out what was going on and it was like I was someone else because they told me that I look good to go for the Fall 08 pgm.

I was like HELL to the NO am I waiting another semester {in my mind}. Well to keep myself busy and options open I transferred to Wayne State and guess what? I received a letter {3 weeks later} inviting me to join the HFCC program for Winter 08. I did postpone:stone but the point is be patient.

The reason I ended up getting a last minute letter was because soooo many {like 30-40} postponed or fell off from the Fall 07 pgm and they needed to fill the spots quickly. It happens all the time so just be ready. One of the registrars for nursing advised me how frustrating it is for them getting a class together because so many people bail out because of this or that reason.

No offense to anyone but I don't believe HFCC should invite students that still need to finish BIO 233/234 because 90 percent end up postponing which is just taking away time from people who are ready. I am a witness because when I received my letter... I had less than 3 weeks to get everything done CPR class, Vaccinations, Drug Screenings, purchase Uniforms etc all of which I did but I still postponed because I had decided I'd rather start in the fall because of the short notice and requirement to attend school in the spring and summer. It would've been great to graduate in May 09 but I have a husband and 2 kids and it was worth it to me more to spend my summer with them.
So AGAIN be patient I know it is frustrating so much goes on to whittle that waiting list on down-- even to the Henry Ford Health System partnership with HFCC which I was accepted into so now my acceptance into the HFCC Fall 08 is being declined as well as 9 other students who were also accepted{only 10 slots available this time for HFCC students the other 50 are for HFHS employees} and again I'm sure students will postpone or have other things come up so keep busy if you've taken all your classes.

It doesn't hurt to take a Nutrition class or a Pathophysiology or Microbiology. Spend as much time as you have left with family friends and boyfriends enjoy life as you know it... I think it ends once Nursing School begins.

I'm on the waitlist and will have all of my classes completed as of summer semester 08. Then I'll just be waiting for the letter. Can anyone tell me PLEASE what I can do while I'm waiting to make it easier on myself once I do receive the letter? I don't want to be rushing around at the last minute trying to figure everything out.

I know that basic life saving should be done last because it will expire but what about vaccinations and such????

I took Medical Terminology this semester, and I absoluetly loved it. I'm going for nursing and wanted to take this class, to get a background on all of the medical terms and abbrviations before I go into nursing. If you have want to take a class before getting into the nursing program. I would highly suggest it.
