So when are you moving here?

I think the MICU is set up just like the SICU, multiple pods but I can't be for sure. I know there are a few MICUs at HF.

MICU has 3 pods. Pods 1&2 are larger ( 16 beds each) and pod 3 is smaller (8 beds). I have only worked pod 3 while helping out with the roll out of metavision. Staff is nice. There is also 6 North which is also a medical ICU. I believe there is 16 beds there. Usually 1-2 patients each Sometimes a aide sometimes not. I have also worked 4 hours in pod 2 and it was nice. Staff are more laid back in pods 2&3. The staff on 6 north is nice also.

Good luck to you. HFH is big so you will be able to find something you like. Interview on more than one unit. You may tour MICU and see that you don't like it.

Do they hire grad nurses? If so... did you start off as a new grad? If not-- what has been your experience with new grads? Do they need time in other areas... would you say that MICU provides good support for their new nurses or is it pretty tough {as far has helpfulness}.

I think MICU does. I know SICU doesn't hire new grads unless they've been externs. If you do go to MICU at HFH, you'll do an "internship" and have to go to critical care classes. I had to go to critical care classes when I started. You also have to pass a test that includes, meds, drug calc, and cardiac dyrhythmias and interventions to be able to continue to work on ICU. If you don't pass after three tries you have to transfer to another unit.
