HELP! What class should I take while I wait?

by RN2B73

Hi everyone,

I am currently on the waitlist at HFCC for the nursing program and it's not looking like I'm gonna get in for fall I have taken all my pre reqs and co reqs and in order to keep my financial aid I need to take at least 6 credit hours. I figured I would take a class towards my bachelors which is 5 credits and there a few others that seem like they would benefit me but are not required. I thought maybe one of you who have already begun the program or even finished it might have some insight for me. I can take introduction to phlebotomy, computers in health care or basic health assessment for 1 credit each.

I would love to hear any advice you have to offer

I haven't entered the program yet (am about to get on the waitlist in Dec) I would take a Medical Terminology class, as I don't think it is required....or is it? It's late and my brain is tired. LOL

Can I ask when you were put on the waitlist? I'm trying to get an idea of my chances of getting in for Fall 2009.

December 07! I know it's close I just don't think I'll make the cut unless a ton of people have postponed!

Med term has helped me in Patho. My prof. even asked if I had taken it yet and said it is helpful in the program. You could do Patho it is a very in depth clas and has taught me a ton. Also what about one of the online ones, cancer care and concepts or culture sensitive health care? I'm doing the cancer one this fall.

I would take those or Microbiology as that seem required in most colleges for your bachelor's degree.
good luck!

Oh that sucks, did you call just to find out where you are on the list? I've read a couple of the people who got on in December received their letter to start this fall.

Did you get on late December or Mid?

I took medical terminology and spanish while waiting to get into the nursing program. They are easy A's. I skipped medical terminology sometimes but got an A. It was an easy class. Spanish wasn't bad either. I also took Intro to Anthrology which I got a B in.

If you are planning on a BSN, I would get the Chemistry and Organic/Biochem out of the way. HFCC has a really good chem prof that I would highly recommend!

I went to OCC and took pharmacology a semester before the nursing program began. I don't know if this is possible, but if you can, I suggest you do. This class is alot of memorizing and flash cards! A lot of people took it before, but those who didn't and waited until the nursing program began had to take it with another nursing class and either failed that class or had a very hard time passing it.

Or, taking classes towards your bachelor's is a really good idea too. I wish I had did this. I am starting at UofD in Jan. and I have to take speech, statistics, chemistry, art or drama course, and intermediate algebra, uugh! However some of these classes I can test out of, so before you decide to do this find out which clases you can test out of so you won't waste so much time and money. Good Luck
