Has anyone had any luck finding a nurse extern position for Summer?


I have not had any luck so far. It seems like there are very few positions out there. I heard the VA Hospital decided to put a freeze on hiring any externs.

there are a lot here in NYC where i live, but they'll only take you if you've finished at least one semester of med/surg. i'm still in my first so hmph. =(

Just to name a few. More than likely, all hospitals have a nursing extern program, so research hospitals that you know of and see if they offer the program. their deadlines are usually in march though.

Thanks mmaarriiee!! Do you happen to know if they are actively hiring new grads? I heard that NYC hospitals were in a major hiring freeze.

I looked at childrens hospital website Friday to find any sort of job and they had 5 student nurse jobs open. it was for the PICU there were also some for recieving i think. it said you needed to be done with atleast 1 med surg. clinical rotation.

Thank you Tonyal. I did apply for all 5 positions there about a month ago and haven't heard a thing. Maybe they haven't started calling people yet? I've applied just about everywhere around Detroit for extern positions. It just doesn't seem like there are a lot of jobs out there.

I have also applied for everything from a transporter to ward clerk. and everything inbetween. nothing yet. hopefully I'll get a call soon or it will be midnights at a fast food place for me.

Good luck to you! A lot of nurses try waitressing. I am a clutz so this is not an option for me.
