Getting into MCC Nursing

Hello,
I'm a new member but I've been browsing topics here for a while. It's a great website.

I just took my HESI today and ended up with a 95.4%. With a 4.0 G.P.A. I feel pretty good about getting in next year, but don't really know. Does anyone know the cutoff for last years class or what type of G.P.A.s/Hesi scores got people in? Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Nate

I had a Hesi score of 94.87 and a GPA of 4.0 when I was accepted for 2007. I think you have an excellent chance of getting in. I ranked 24th out of 827 applicants.

As long as you don't have anything else to hold you back such as felonies and the like, i'm pretty sure you're in, I got in with a 3.85 and 94.5 on the HESI.

Congratulations on you high score

I'am hoping for that range. Taking the HESI DEC. 18th. What was the format for the grammar portion of the test? How did you prepare? How long did it take you?

I'am feeling a bit nervous I have prepared quite a bit. I looked at the HESI 2, that looks tough!!

Good luck, sounds like your chances of getting in are great!!

hi guys im also going for nursing at mcc. by the way pbid ill be at the test tommorrow (18th)as well. im kinda freaking about the hesi exam. i did good but not great in my classes this semester (about a 3.7 gpa for 14 cr hrs)so now i know that i have to get a good hesi score to tip the scales in my favor, but im freaking about about not getting a good score. i borrowed the hesi study book from a friend and while its been a good help in sharpening my math skills, its not a great help with reading, grammar, or vocab. im an EMT and have been for a few years so im hoping that will help in the vocab section if medical terminology is used. any other areas of particular to study on would be greatly helpful to me since i take the exam in about 16 hours. sorry for the babble, just nervous.

The hardest part of that exam for me was the reading (got 91 on that section). The questions were so ambiguous. If you studed the vocabulary in the guide, and are familiar with some medical terminology you should do fine on that section, I only missed one, I think! Grammar was a piece of cake. The math is exactly what's in the guide too. There were a couple story problems that screwed me up, though. I also didn't anticipate that some of the math questions would have write in answers. The test was overall much easier than I anticipated and after each section was complete and I saw my score I was quite relieved! Good luck tomorrow!

thanks for the tips anurse2be09. i will definitely try to grasp the reading concepts better. the math, once i began practicing and doing it again, is actually quite simple and if the math on the test is similar to the study book like you said, than i should be ok.

is the vocab on the test just answering the definition to a word. in grammar, how are the questions worded? is it like they give a sentance and ask what the pronoun or adjective is in the sentance or is it they give a sentance and ask if the nouns, pronouns, verbs, etc. used are correctly used in that sentance?

sorry for the bombarding of questions, but i just kinda want to know what im up against.

are you in the nursing program now and if so what was your score and what was your gpa for the last 12 before you were accepted?

If I remember correctly for grammar you need to pick one out of a few sentences that is incorrect (multiple choice). For vocabulary I think the words are italicized in sentences and you have to choose which definition goes with that word. I took it a year ago, though, so my memory isn't sharp anymore. My score was 94.87 and my GPA for the 12 credits was 4.0. I start in January .
