I never hear much about GCH, if you been or worked there was your experience positive or negative?

I did my paramedic clinicals at the GCH ER. Quite frankly, the fact that it's a smaller hospital is both the biggest positive and the biggest negative. For example, I found that the nurses in the ER could give more attention to their patients because there were fewer of them. However, the flipside is that the nursing shortage is very acutely felt, the inpatient beds can fill quickly (leaving patients in the ER longer), and they just can't handle the more critical cases, which are typically stabilized then transferred: I had 2 patients flown out by Survival Flight to UM in a single 12 hour shift.
Depending on your prejudices, GCH is an osteopathic facility and does participate in osteopathic residency programs. Some people like that, some don't. I found it to have a much more collegial atmosphere than some other hospitals in the area. I do know of at least one nurse who works full-time at a larger hospital and then works contingent in GCH's ER.
I do know someone who had a terrible experience concerning the treatment of her child, but it sounds like it came down to an issue with one particular staff member, not a larger symptom of the facility as a whole. Remember, lots of people have had negative experiences at each and every hospital in the area, some are just more vocal about it than others.
Bottom line, I enjoyed my time at GCH, I liked the staff, I might work there contingent if it wasn't such a long commute for me.

They have a really good rehab facility and physical therapy, not too crazy about other depts tho.
My friend went to their ER with obvious s/sx of a blood clot and they just told her to elevate her leg and follow up with primary care.
She went to another hospital and they treated the clot.

Garden City Hospital is very small I've oriented there for agency before and I really dodn't like it. They have no code team, amd that really surprised me.

I have worked there, and I am doing my clinicals there. I have learned a lot that correlates to my lecture class. I got to spend the day in the Cardiac Cath Lab, Stress Lab, ICU and on Telemetry. It is a smaller community hospital, there is what they call "Intervention Staff" that respond directly to CODES, I know I read somewhere earlier in this forum, that a young 22 year old didn't think they had one. I have worked there for years and they always had a crew running in to a patient's room in the event of a code. Now, they have a group who are dedicated just for that event. I loved many things about it there, and I have never experienced any thing but a community hospital, so I don't know what it would be like compared to U of M, or the DMC. I think you will get a great education there, if you are inquiring about taking clinicals there. Good luck.
