Fees Fees and more Fees

I know it's been a while since I attended college (HFCC), but were there always this many fees tacked on to tuition??? I just registered for 8 credit hours and was hit with $246.00 in additional fees! $44 per class service fee, $36 per class registration fee, $8 per class tech something or another fee, $27 class fee, $50 lab fee. I guess I better pay better attention next time I register because I totally wasn't prepared for that!

Piggy Bank Re: Fees Fees and more Fees
I sympathize, i've attended school in other states that also charge for silly things. They tacked a student government fee onto my classes in Rhode Island .

Price we pay for a good education I guess....or whatever they think of next

OU used to do the same thing...They charged us a fee for the student workout area ($60 if I remembered correctly)...So many students complained about it they eventually dropped it.

Yes, lots of fees. And don't forget the price of books. Sheesh! Try Amazon or other online sellers for used books. You may be able to get the IBSN from the teacher. One class I even got the previous version of a book online which was really cheap. (they had just switched to the newer version for my class.) The professor said it was ok if I used the older version (most understand how expensive it can get) and he even gave me the syllabus for the older book he had used last semester. Also, buy used from the bookstore but get there early. Most start buying books the week of finals or just before and they pay the highest prices if you are selling it back then too. One other thing, You can take the amount you pay for classes off your taxes, but not the books. Seems the gov. thinks you don't need to buy the books to take the class. Yeah, right. Some of the fees you pay are deductible too. Doesn't take away all the pain but helps. Do look closely at the fees though so you are prepared.

I don't know if it's always been like this, because my parents paid the first bill, but yes I have paid all these fees, plus a $50.00 activity fee. I have no idea what this allegedly covers.

Ha I am actually quite thrilled with the tuition rates at HFCC. I graduated from Wayne State a few years ago and this tuition is soooo cheap!!! For example at WSU for a freshman it costs 200 dollars per credit...124 registration fee and at least a 17 dollar fee if not more ha. Soooo all that is cheaper then my psy class that I am taking this spring...and thats 3 credits (I am a resident) Just imagine how expensive it is as a senior at WSU (an extra 37 dollars per credit) For books go to half.com. If you go to HFCC they have the books listed that you need on the book store web site and then you can go on half.com and get them cheaper.
