Entrance into macomb this year was really competative

Compared to last year it seems like people scored a lot higher on the hesi and had 4.0's....from going to the seminar i thought if i scored a 90 on the hesi and got a 4.0 i would be golden....this year my friend got a 90 and a 4.0 and was ranked 160.....im sure glad i did better on the hesi that i expected to.....does anyone else feel like this was a rough year to apply

There was over 800 applicants this year and only 120 where taken into the program. The rankings were awful...since the last I heard was if you scored above 90 on the hesi and at least had a 3.5 gpa you would be golden. I guess 800 applicants was just too many. Oh well...Good luck and congrats to the ones that got in. Looks like there is going to be 680 people that are going to get their sad rejection letters and have to start over again. Such is life...

Last year 1200 applied (rumor has it) and they took 150 with the "accelerated" class. It is tough to get in every year in all nursing schools. A friend of mine had a 3.8 GPA and 90 on the HESI last year and was not accepted, but another who had a 3.6 and 94 on the HESI and was accepted............you never know! They tend to get high up there calling those on the "alternate list" From what I have been told they have been known to call up to the 180's.

Best of Luck!

I'm feeling very lucky to get in, and a bit intimidated. I didn't take all fluff classes to get my GPA to 4, but I still have doubts about my abilities! I'm going to have to keep repeating to myself "I think I can, I think I can!"

MIKelly, I feel the same. Very lucky to get in and unsure of my abilities to handle it. I think that it is natural to doubt yourself any time you are learning something new. All we can do is the best we can.

Have you guys looked at Macomb's nursing school website? It looks so serious and important, like you are joining a special sorority or something (sorry guys!). I will have to take my ranking to heart and make it push me forward with confidence, I guess. It's such a big deal, I mean I knew it was; but reading that website really drills it into your head! I hope I'm as smart as I think I am !

I know exactly what you mean!!! Looking at the website was a wake up call to me. For so long I have been focused on getting into nursing school and that has been what has taken up the majority of my effort, but looking at this website, i realize that the struggle to make it into the program will be nothing compared to the struggle to suceed in it, even though I ranked pretty high. I also joined the yahoo group, you should check it out.
