CLEP and Wayne State (second career)

I know that wayne will take your classes no matter how old they are so the fact you graduated 10+ years ago doesn't matter-- If the classes you took for that degree are some of the ones that are prereqs they will accept them but they have to be the equiv of the exact class they want. I know this because I was at an info meeting with someone who took classes 10+ years ago before having kids and was curious if they would accept her classes from then and the lady at the info session said they would transfer. (Again I would double check. Go to an info meeting they are very nice and super friendly!)

Keep in mind that the class must be exact though (for the organic/biochem class it must be a class doing both. Or if you took a seperate orgo class and a seperate biochem they MAY consider that but regular organic chem does not fulfill the requirement they are kind of crazy like that.

I'm not sure about anyof the CLEP stuff....

But I do know that the program is very competitive for second degree and I know several people who have applied with excellent GPAs. If yours below a 3.0 I would really retake the prereq classes and get my GPA up to have a shot at getting in. I'm not aware of anyone who has gotten in with a GPA below 3.0 (I could be wrong) and many are 3.6+ students. Many students with high GPAs apply and that's what admittance is based on only-- grades in prereq courses and full time scholarly achievement. Wayne also now implemented a system where people who take all classes at wayne have priority, then those that took science classes at wayne. Next are students who took classes anywhere with no course repeats and a 3.0+ GPA and last priority are students who take classes anywhere with a GPA below 3 or those students who have to repeat a course to get a grade up. At least that's true for the traditional program.

Really. Go to an info session for the CD2 program they know everything. Good luck.

Also you missed the deadline to start fall 2008 (it was march 31) so you have a whole year. Start talking to the office of student affairs NOW and figure out exactly what courses you have that will transfer and count. Then you have summer session, fall, and winter 2009 to finish all the outstanding prereqs so you could start fall 2009 if accepted.

I applied to WSU for second degree last year. I took the Biology CLEP on because I had a biology class without a lab (many years ago) and really didn't want to take the whole thing over again. They accepted the CLEP as equivalent to their biology requirement. Why, I have no idea, as I STILL did not have the lab requirement!!!

I took the CLEP on campus, but was not a student yet, so when I applied, I did have difficulty getting the CLEP record tied to me. It took several phone calls and a few days, but I did find someone to help me and it did work out ok. The Nursing School accepted it.

As always, things change, so you should check what the policy is TODAY before you waste any time, but I definitely think CLEP is the way to go. By the way, if you have CLEPs, they count it in the requirement, but it doesn't get calculated into your grade point, so it could work for you or against you, depending on your situation.
