Changing uniform policy

by ISHYRN

I am sooo fustrated with my hospital for changing our uniform policy. Granted they gave us a couple of months notice, but to have all the RN's buy navy scrubs (without different color piping or stitching) by Sept 1st is crazy. I spent almost 250 on 4 pairs of scrubs and thats with my 10% discount offered by life uniform. I think if they want us to buy new scrubs they should have to give us some kind of refund for the money spent!!

They said they want us all in navy so our patients and families know who there nurse is and that we would look more professional. I work in critical care and most of our patients dont know who they are let alone who there nurse is because she/he is wearing navy blue.

Alot of hospitals are switching to color coded uniforms. My first job out of school required navy or white scrubs with no prints which I thought was horrible. Then I switched to my job I am at now which requires nurses to wear caribbean blue but we can wear prints. To find scrubs in that color is down right impossible, I wish I could have my navy back!

Most hospitals in my vicinity including my new job now require the navy blue scrubs. I do think it can be a inconvenience to some, yet I now finally can tell who is a nurse and who isn't especially when people are walking on and off of my unit. My job isn't reimbursing for uniform purchases, I will just write it off on my taxes next year.
