Changes in nursing requirements - Schoolcraft

Changes in Nursing Program in 2009

Published: 10/24/2008
Earlier this month, the college received approval from the Michigan Board of Nursing to launch the Nursing Career Ladder Curriculum (NCLC). The NCLC will replace the current Associated Degree Nursing (ADN) and the Practical Nursing (PN) curricula.
The NCLC was developed to increase flexibility for nursing student to move from a PN program to an ADN program, as it contains the curriculum for both. Following completion of the PN requirements, nursing students may apply for licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and have the option of continuing into the ADN program without further application or admission requirements. Upon completion of the ADN program, graduates may apply for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
To accomplish this, several course requirements in the Nursing Program have been changed, including new courses that will now be required and others that are no longer requirements. Students currently in the Nursing Program and those who have applied and are planning to begin the nursing program in 2009 have received letters informing them of these changes and inviting them to attend information sessions. If they did not attend an information session or have additional questions, they are encouraged to contact the Nursing Department at 734-462-4401 or make an appointment with an academic advisor/counselor by calling 734-462-4429.
