Best Oncology Jobs/Centers for RN

by JoAnna McNurse Premium Member

I'm moving to MI in the fall.

Anything you can tell me about the best oncology hospital and out-patient office/center would be greatly appreciated.

Will probably live in the Birmingham or Rochester Hills area.

Thanks so much

Karmanos is really cool. I work there as a student nurse right now and I love it! Check it out... www.karmanos.org

There are several good hospitals in the area but the best cancer specialities are actually just outside of the area. Karmanos is a specialty hospital in Detroit and part of the DMC (Detroit Medical Center) that treats cancer patients and participates in cancer research/education. Additionally, the Univeristy of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor (about 45 minutes from where you plan to live) has a nationally recognized cancer center where people travel from all over the country and world for treatment. It is one of the leading cancer research hospitals and is part of the NCCN.

Good luck...you can't go wrong...there are lots of great options for you in Metro Detroit.

If you are interested in pediatrics at all, children's hospital of michigan has an awesome Oncology floor with a brand new Bone Marrow Transplant unit.

I would stay away from private practices if you need insurance, a lot of them hire a large amount of Oncology nurses all at part time. Any practice I have worked at did this unless it was one directly associated with a hospital.
