Re: Application Meeting WCCCD
It was definitely a full house last night.
Call me silly, but I'll be remembering what a current WCCCD nursing student told me immediately after getting accepted. As we wait for those acceptance letters, try not to focus so much on the GPA. It'll drive us mad. Instead, focus on your letter grades...doesn't make things perfect but she does have a point.
For example:
I could sit and wonder how many people also have a 3.78, how many are higher, lower, etc. Freaking out over the decimal point, remembering how many faces I saw in the auditorium.
Isn't perfect, but a tad easier to deal with when thinking...I have one B and the rest are A's. There are only two scenarios beating that. All A's, OR one B in a 3-credit hour course (my B is in a 4hr course) with A's in the other four classes.
When thinking this way, you not as self-critical over that B grade!
It comes down to our being proud of ourselves for making it this far, and earning the grades necessary for an EXTREMELY competitive program!
Whoohoo - I don't know about anyone else, but I'm so glad that the application meeting is behind me!
Regards,

Good luck to all of you. When I applied, there were over 300 people and that was two years ago. Don't sweat the GPA thing too much, and you might want to read the student nurse forum on this allnurses.
I remember those days when the 4.0 people bragged and bragged, and to be honest with you, I am about to graduate from nursing school and I got in with a 3.35. I am successful with nursing school, and it requires a lot of hard work and determination. Nursing school is tough. You do not have to have a perfect score on everything in pre req's to become a good nurse. Once in the program, you will have to work your behind off and studying becomes your life. You will breathe, eat and sleep nursing school. Some 4.0 students went down to C students, remember this..without saying anything too negative about the GPA thing, common sense far outweighs any book smart person any day. It is good to know both, but common sense is really important.
Some people can really score high grades, but in the clinical setting they are lost..you have to be able to apply both theory and common sense to your patient's care. I wish you lot's of luck on your journey, and stay busy, to keep your mind of that letter and that mail delivery person...keep your chin up and work hard once you get in. Your batch of students has one advantage over ours. The 12 credit policy, I love it. Those transfer students were taking our spots, so now the college is making our students a preference, which it should. Before, the 12 credits taken at WCCCD policy, we had all kinds of University students applying next to us, and some of them beat us out of a spot. So you have an advantage now. I wish you all the best. | | No. 24 |

Unfortunately, the 12 credit hour policy doesn't start until the Spring batch. University students can still apply for the Fall, although a lot of folks at the info meeting I went to in April didn't make the April cut off for transcript evaluations which was the same day as the meeting and they didn't know about the cut off.
I understand how hard nursing school is, I have watched and supported two of my very best friends go through the program and they just graduated this month! They inspired me to go back to school and become a nurse and that is exactly what I am doing. Anyway, congrats on your accomplishments! Your almost there.
Anyway, didn't mean to write a book, just wanted to share my thoughts. Thank you so much for the Good luck though, we all can certainly use all the good luck wishes we can get.

Thank you for the encouraging words! It helps to hear from someone who has been there and done that. Good luck to you and congrats on all you have accomplished thus far.

Re: Application Meeting WCCCD
I applied on May 19, but two friends attended last nights' application meeting - they said it was packed. I've no idea if that means 100, 300, or 500.
The meeting I attended had to have at least - 400.
I just want to know how many applied.
Oh...and I want my letter of acceptance!
