Anyone go to MCC and take the HESI


I have decided after 3 years away from school that Im going to go back the Nursing school.

I went through the medic program but had to drop b/c i was pregnant when I did this my GPA dropped from 4.0 to 2.87. My plan is to take 3 bs classes to get my last 12 credits a 4.0 and take the HESI and hopefully get into the program.

If this the book everyone used http://portals.elsevier.com/portal/h...=9781416056355 ?

Does anyone have one they are selling?

did it help you with the test?

Any info would be great.

If you search this site, you'll find a lot of info on MCC & the Hesi test. I took it last year & got in. Your plan to take bs classes to raise your GPA is one of many because it is so competitive. I didn't do that, but I was told they will be changing their admission policy to base GPA on pre-req's only. I don't know when but quite honestly they need to change it soon.

They did change it for 2009 admission. GPA will be based only on English, A&P and Micro. I personally think that is a lot more fair than letting someone take BS classes to get A's for the nursing program/

Inspire, do you mind if I ask you what your Hesi score was. I did not get in last year with a 4.0 and an 89% hesi score.

Since they are just going by prereq grades I would start by taking the easiest prereqs first like psych and nutrition.They are super easy and will get you back into the swing of classes so you can do well in the others. Then you only need one more for the 12 credits. As long as you do well on the HESI you don't need a perfect 4.0. I didn't have one and got in. I'm glad they are going by prereqs though, competing with people who took 12 credits of gym and art was unfair!

The study guide is helpful but the test is pretty easy and I was kinda mad to spend the money on it. Do you have an email that has a large capacity such as gmail? I can try to email you the study guide. I know I have the hard copy around here somewhere but I'm moving next week so that's not a sure thing.

Other than that I would say be confident and go for it. I was away from schoolfor longer than you, and although it's been a lot of work, it is worth it.

I had a 4.0 & 94 on the hesi.

I just want to say I have taken all my pre reqs and have an A in every one of my classes my GPA dropped b/c I had to leave school halfway through my paramadic classes b/c I was pg. It was to late to drop the class so I was given an E in them thats why my GPA dropped so for this I should be punished? As of today I was told they are taking your last 12 hours, I too wish they would change it b/c if they did I would need no more classes and I could just take the HESI and assuming I got a good grade on that I would have 4.0 in my pre reqs for the nursing program. Should not have a problem but b/c of the last 12 CR HR rule I have to waste time and money and take classes I dont need.

Hope everyone understands that Im not just bsing my way into nursing school!!!!!!!

Sorry about that. Didn't mean to imply that you were BSing your way in, I meant in general. If I was in a lot of peoples' boats I probably would have taken stupid classes too to level the playing field. I already went to college though so I was stuck with my undergrad GPA which was certainly not a 4.0 (not bad, but not 4.0) so I was frustrated with the system. I hope you get it figured out.

But honestly, if there are two candidates and one dropped out in the middle of the semester and one didn't, you can't blame them for going with the one that didn't drop out. Nursing school is tough and you have to handle it with whatever life throws at you....and that's why they have these rules.

Well look on the brite side, if what Jabraham says is true then maybe you do have a good chance, if you took A&P, English and Micro. I'd call first thing on Monday and ask if they are only basing entrance off those classes and the HESI. Good Luck! I hope this is true and you get in.
