Any Nursing Assistants uncertified?

I worked in a hospital as a nursing assistant, and I wasn't certified. In the interview, I told them that I was about to start nursing school, and that was sufficient. I think it probably depends on the hospital though.

They would have paid for my certification if I wanted them to, but I finished my first semester shortly after being hired, and was then considered a nurse extern.

I also go to occ and have been working toward a nursing degree. when I found out last year about the very long waiting list and it would be sometime before i would be able to have a good job i took a semester at auburn hills and went through emt training and i took phlebotomy last winter. It really paid off, now i work part time(2dayswk) for a hospital as a nurse assistant on a med/surg floor with great benefits!!. I really think if you really want to get in to a hospital take a phlebotomy class at highland lakes, it is only 1cr hr. and well worth it. It really makes a difference. I worked at Beaumont straight after taking the Red Cross CNA class. I never got certified and was still hired.

Check every day. I applied online. I don't think they even take paper apps anymore. If you go to the HR office they put you on a computer to fill your application out.

Once you find any NA position apply for it. I called and got the name of the recruiter trying to fill the position from the secretary. I called and called until the recruiter actually picked up her phone. I didn't leave her VM if she did not pick up. Once I talked to her I got an interview.

Also look at different nursing schools in the area for when they have job fairs. I went to Oakland University's last year and there were a ton of recruiters from the area hospitals. They were all willing to give me names of contacts to speak to at their hospital.

You might also look into being a home health aide, I have been one on and off for about 12 years, and I have never been certified as a CNA. The hours are very flexible and you also get milage reimbursement. I work as an HHA for a hospice and I love my job. I have learned more in the past 6 months seeing hospice patients than I ever did working with the general elderly population.
Assisted living facilities also hire nursing assistants without certifications.

I took my CNA class through a Long Term Care Facility for free. Usually, county facilities do the classes right in the facility and hire you after the two week course. You get paid for most of the second week. You may not want to get into geriatrics, but it will get your foot in the door-a little easier on the pocket book. Even if you don't except a job through the facility, you will still have the certificate of completion, and can go anywhere and get a job, and most places if they hire you will pay for your state testing.

I am working as a Nurse Aide in the hospital right now. I am not certified, but they have only hired me because I told them that I am a nursing student. But I have heard about nursing homes that pay for your CNA certificate if you work for them for a certain period of time.
