Any Michigan NURSES here?

Glad that students are finding this useful to share info....but are there any nurses here also?

I am a new nurse and work in med surge. I like my hospital and benefits...however I keep getting recruiting mailings from other hospitals and would like to hear from some other nurses about different career opportunities and experiences in MI!

Hi there,

:O) There is actually another post recently just like yours. I'm an RN in West Michigan. I graduated nursing school April 2005. Nice to meet you!

Thanks for your reply, and nice to meet you too.

I graduated with my BSN in April 07'. I am in SE MI. I had lots of hospitals to choose from. It has been a huge and much harder transition than I expected! (school certainly did not prepare me enough!!)

Are you pretty comfortable in your role after 3 years?

At this point I am staying in med/surge for the experience, but may move into a more specialized area in the future....or persue my Master's degree....right now I am just trying to get through the shift though.

I would love to see some more conversation from RN's in MI.

Well, when I graduated, I did neuro/trauma for 9 months, then tried homecare (post-op openheart cases mostly) for 6 months, then was hired for my dream job- L&D and have been doing this ever since (about 1 1/2 years.) I learn new things every day. I enjoyed all three jobs, but want to stay in OB for a long time, and with my current employer which is a great hospital to work for.

I hope things get easier for you. :O)

Glad you are happy and doing L&D. My clinical (school/instrutor) experience was not very good in this area. And everyone seemed to have c-section!!!! (Is there a high rate at your hosp.?)

I am a mom of two, and had wonderful birth experiences (thanks to the nurses). I am sure the women/families you touch will always remember you - as you are present during this intimate time.

My family is going for a short vacation the end of May to Lake MI and I am going to look at the job postings for area hospitals there (love your side of the state!)
