Any DMC nurses out there?

I am doing my clinicals there and thinking of working there when I graduate. Any employee out there with any input? I am also interested in U of M Hospital and Oakwood.

I work at Receiving and LOVE MY JOB! There is something about being down there that you do not get in the 'burbs. I began as a Student Nurse Associate and was offered a Staff Nurse position before I graduated. While I was a SNA I was able to gain a lot more experience than most of my classmates who had Nurse Tech jobs at other hospitals - it is very hands on there. If you are able to look at the patients as people and not judge them for their downfalls (drug addict, homeless, noncompliant with meds and so on) it is a great atmosphere to gain experience and knowledge. That being said, they do pay slightly less than other hospitals.......but they are getting better. If you have good attendance you are given bonuses that add on to your pay.

I really feel at home there, by the way, what is the difference between being a Nurse Tech and a Student Nurse Associate?? I would love getting hired on as that, as I am sure it would help. I worked as a Nurse Assistant for years at Garden City Hospital, on Oncology and then Med/Surg units. I appreciate the feed back you posted, and it's what I was hoping I would hear. There is no difference...that is just what the DMC calls their Nurse Techs. Having experience should help get in you in for an interview...... What hospital/area are you hoping to go in to?

I'm at Hutzel right now, really fell in love with the NICU there. My father spent 8 months of his life at Harper, which is the same building Hutzel is in, so probably there, not sure yet, have a few more rotations before graduation. I might want to go to Children's as well. We are going to do our Peds rotation there in our 4th semester.

One more quick question, do you have an ADN or BSN? I will have the ADN, but going to go on and get the BSN while working. I eventually want my MSN. I am at WCCCD, where did you go to school? I am learning a great deal, compared to my friend who is at WSU. We did our pre req's together at WCCCD and then she transferred. She is a year ahead of me and just starting Med/Surg I, where as I am done with Med/Surg II and doing OB now, MS/III is in January. I just saw on the job postings for the DMC it sometimes will say, BSN preferred. I was just wondering if my ADN would be a hindrance in getting hired there.
