Any 2nd degree students or Oakwood Hospital workers?

Hi all I am a 2nd degree student at Oakland University, hoping to get into their fall program with Oakwood hospital. The thing is, I have to interview with both the school and the hospital. My interview with the hospital (Oakwood in Dearborn) is coming up and I am super excited. However, I don't know what to expect. I would love to hear from anyone who has worked there and gone through an interview with them, or anyone who has had their clinicals through them......or, I know MSU has had programs through them also. I would just be grateful for any input on their interview process and/or what it is like to work there.

I hope someone is out there, and I thank you in advance.

Well, I'm not admitted yet, that's why I have to interview. However, I am very pro-OU because they have three things I love: 1) rolling admissions, 2) 2-3 programs offered each year, 3) GPA for admittance is based on just 5 classes.

This year they are actually running 3 programs. They had one start in Jan., they have one starting in May, and then they will have another one starting this fall (the one I would like to get in). From what I understand, if you apply to one program, and don't make the cut, you have top priority for the next program (as long as you meet the requirements). For example, I had actually applied for the May program but was never interviewed because the program had filled up already with carry overs from the Jan. applicants. I thought I was going to have to wait until Jan. to get in, but then they got this Fall program with Oakwood and I am thrilled. So, I really hope to get in......and believe I will. It is not all GPA based, which I kind of like because they keep the applicants rolling through. I don't know, I just really appreciate their system

Well I had my interview today, it was quite pleasant They said that they will have the program at their facilities (clinicals, labs, everything), and ofcourse Oakland University will supply the instructors. If I get in there then I feel I'd probably like to work there also. The hospital seemed nice, I really liked the women I interviewed with, they have good orientation programs.....it was just so exciting to be there!

You can get printable information about the 2nd degree program at OU's website which is www.Oakland.edu... it tells you the pre-req's and how they figure out your GPA. Good luck to you.

Sounds like the folks at Oakwood have found a way to deal with the nursing shortage; train them in-house. Makes a lot of sense. Just like the good old days when hospitals did their own nurse training and utilized the student labor.

Interesting kcleavinit... I'm starting the 2nd degree program in May at OU, and we didn't have to interview at the hospital, just with OU. But we'll be working at St. Johns, not Oakwood. Good luck to you!

Oh congratulations to you! I know people who are in for May and they also said they didn't have to interview (lucky people)....I think it's Oakwood's preference and so they insisted on it. Congratulations again to you, I hope you stay on the boards because I'd love to hear how the program is going for you. Oh, do you have classes there this semester? I have three online....alot of my classmates are in for May too.

I'm doing a clinical rotation at Oakwood Annapolis and I've found it pretty fun. The nurses and staff there are really knowledgeable and happy to have us! They are friendly and skilled and are always looking to show you new things so you can learn.

Oh thankyou, that is great to know. I definitely got a good impression today, and both nurse recruiters have been there for many years so that speaks well.

Thank you for letting me know, I appreciate it.
