Accepted at MSU!

W00T! Just sent my acceptance to MSU for their 2nd degree program. Have some questions for you folks.

PDA: "requires" an iPaq 111 loaded with the RN Constellation software for like $500. That seems expensive, but are there any options here? Probably not. I'm unhappy it won't sync with my Macbook.

Stethoscope: Pushing a Littman bought through them, is it smart to buy elsewhere? Any recommendations on good stethoscopes?

Thanks for the help, and I'll be sure to check here when I need support in a few months...

Congrats on your acceptance!

I bought my littman steth online (and love it!) for a great price, but when you factor in shipping it probably ended up being like 5-10 bucks less than if I'd bought it locally at a scrub shop. The package deals my school offered with clipboards, steths etc ended up being comparably priced to cheap online prices with shipping. It's up to you where you buy, but you can have your choice of tubing color and the possibility of engraving if you order via the internet.

I bought the classic II SE which is the slightly lower version vs the cardiology steth the student nurse association pushed on most students during the equipment sale. It has an actual bell and a tunable diaphragm on the other side and I hear WAY better with it than when I borrow a classmate's cardiology steth that they splashed out an extra 80 bucks for......

I'm not any help w the PDA as I haven't bought one myself and haven't yet seen the need for one (but if I buy one it will definitely be macbook compatible)

Again congratulations and keep us posted on your progress!

I also received an acceptance letter from MSU for their second degree program! I also think the PDA seems expensive, but I would think if they would require it then it should be worth it. Good Luck and Congrats!

Sweet, I'll be seeing you there. I've looked online and it seems the PDA is at least $50 cheaper on eBay for brand new ones, and I'll be talking to a friend who has gone through the 2nd degree program soon to see what she thinks. I'll be sure to share any info I may have.

Sounds great, any interesting info I get I will be sure to share. I only know people who are in the traditional program so I do not know a whole lot about the second degree path.
Good luck!

Congratulations on your accomplishment!!!

I also hope to get into MSU in the next year or so - I would like to get into the BSN program.
I purchased my stethoscope online (I have a Littmann Cardiology III and it was brand new-never opened when I bought it). It was on Ebay and I felt that I paid a very fair price and the seller (affordablemedsupplies) was a charm to work with. I love this stethoscope!! I have had a couple of others but the Littmann is definitely the best, by far.

I also bought a PalmTX and loaded all of the nursing stuff on there. I don't know if you can put the program you need on it, but I got the Palm on Ebay (very reasonable, too) as well. I bought it as a nursing student and I am now working in a hospital setting - I still use it for meds and all the other stuff I never thought I would need. I go through Skyscape and Amazon for my nursing stuff. I just deal with whoever is cheaper! I like the Palm because it fits so very nicely in any pocket.
