Accelerated Programs?

by RDH1

Can anyone tell me if there is such a thing as an accelerated ADN program? I have heard of such a thing at OCC, but can't find any info on it.

I have my Bachelor's Degree in science for dental hygiene (and also an Associate of Arts, if that matters), and am looking for a second degree type thing, but the BSN programs are really expensive and I've heard that there is no pay difference between a new RN with a bachelor's vs an associates. If I did the ADN, I would eventually just do an online program RN to BSN when I was financially ready to do so.

Any tips? I really don't want to go through a traditional program that is 2-3 years long, since I just got out of a 3 yr dental hygiene program!

Thanks!

you have not heard anything about the accelerated occ program because this is the 1st time it has been offered. the only people eligible for it at this time are people who were already accepted to the regular 2 yr program. they sent a letter out to us telling us a little about the program and asking if we were interested in it. hopefully more info will be available about it as time goes on.

the basic gist of the program is that all clinicals will be held at DMC facilities. it will take 1 yr instead of 2 yrs. it runs from may 2008 - august 2009. there are no breaks except holidays perhaps. you will be eligible for employment at DMC facilities. there are only 60 spots and selection will be based on GPA.

I don't know where you are located but LCC (Lansing Community College) also has an accelerated ADN program.

Another thought is an accelerated BSN program. They are typically 12 months but some I have heard are a little longer (only by a couple of months) I know for sure that UofM ann arbor has one, Mstate, HFCC HOSPITAL has one and I dont think you already need a degree in whatever else, and wayne state I heard rumored to have one!
Good Luck!!!
