It's not a stereotype- nursing is a mostly female profession and males are the exception. It's a fact, and why does it matter?

Construction workers are mostly male and vastly out-number female construction workers- just a simple fact- not a stereotype.

Seriously, who cares. Why does it matter what we are called? I am not a fan of whiners and enjoy the fact that men seem to "whine" less than female counterparts. I dont see whats wrong with the title as it stands. Are we as a society becoming so politically correct that we have to change forum names now to reflect it?

as someone posted earlier...................STOP BEING GIRLS....(flame suit on)

Superramvette, you might have a different take on things after you start nursing school in the fall and get closer to your goal of becoming a nurse.

In the meantime, calling people "whiners" and "girls" isn't productive and distracts from what you're actually trying to get across. I'd be more than happy to listen to your opinion if you can give it without insulting people.

For the record I was being playful but one cannot determine tone on an internet forum. However, my view still stands that the whole topic and name change is ridiculous. This goes back to those that get offended by the "murse" term and being called "male nurse." I have had a lot of professions in my short 28 year life and sterotypes are everywhere. I seriously doubt that my opinion is going to change after 2 years of nursing school. People are the same no matter what profession.

Political correctness is about twisting other people's undies to keep them from giving even a hint of offense. In many areas, it has definitely gone too far.

Changing the title of this forum is a measure taken from within our website to eliminate a term many of us find kind of irritating and replace it with a better alternative. No pressure or intimidation toward anyone else. Just a way of setting a good example and supplying a respectful term that says "men in nursing" are not an anomaly, and they are here to stay.

Ok well then let me ask you this. Why wasn't there a vote? Everyone has a different opinion and from the post in this thread there are only a couple people really pushing for this ( just look at Sapper41's comments with 7 kudos, to me this says there are a lot of people who either are neutral or dont think this should be an issue). Now I dont frequent this room much so maybe there was a vote and I am completely wrong. I'm just saying that maybe it was ASSUMED that everyone was offended and wanted the forum changed.

It wasn't necessarily about people being offended. We had input in this thread as well as some behind the scenes. Some of our staff members are men, and they weighed in, too. There was also the initial observation that was made in a different thread.

All in all, it just seemed time for a change.

Not to give you a hard time, but if you don't visit this forum that often, why would changing the name be a problem?

Its not. I just have a pet peeve when I feel like the needs/wants of a few outweigh those of the many. Evidently I have mistaken the wants of the few with the wants of the many so I will retract my statement.
