What is it about competition and male nurses?

Do you guys out there ever have contests at work? I mean stupid ones, just to show that your a male nurse. I work at an ER in Sweden and we have started a contest - who can put a venflon in one of your own veins in the shortest time. Watch this clip, but don't try this at home!

Good luck (nooooot)!

i tried to get the video to play, but couldn't. Sometimes we have contests on who can leave the toilet seat up the longest, or who can make the most splashing on the rim of the toilet. ;-)

That video is nuts.....

Thank God it only took one try!

I remember what it was like to be an ER RN and go for the antecubital EVERY time, much to the despair of our Med/Surg and Tele coworkers....

We've had beard growing contests, w/c races, and urine retention contests (with the bladder scanner ) to name a few...I like the IV contest...

Now it's turned into a NOC shift only thing...on day shift we don't have much opportunity to goof off...

So you guys DO do that on purpose... I've always thought that somehow that was a pt. or family member doing that in the staff bathroom!

I'm the only male nurse that works at this hospital....
...if I leave the lid up, or drip-drip, they all KNOW who it was!

Men leaving the toillet seat up all the time, how rude the women always say. Well , I say, at least you know that they did actually lift it!! Its the guys that dont lift it that infuriate me, how discusting. And , why doesnt it go the other way, getting tired of those ladies leaving the toilet seat down all the time! lol

While we're on the subject of drops on the toilet seat, I'd venture to guess that many of our female coworkers have not lifted the seat and seen what THEY have left UNDER the seat.

DH used to have push-ups contests -- who could do the most push-ups in under a minute, or the most push-ups period. They've had chin-ups contests and one kicking contest -- who could kick the highest, leaving a footprint on the wall. (All of the he-men martial artists were devastated when the former ballet dancer, a notorious flamer, won.) There were arm wrestling contests, usually at the local pub after a long nightshift. (Also beer drinking and shot drinking competitions.) There was a contest to see who could date the most travel nurses, or who could get a date with the most stand-offish travel nurse. There was a contest to see who could lift the most weight -- in the form of co-workers, who then had to stand on the scale to prove who was the heaviest. And then there was the gross-out contest, which heralded the end of the contests -- they managed to gross out one of the guys -- the male assistant nurse manager. (It was actually a woman who accomplished that feat -- a baby stool in a sandwich.)
