Ok, Im a woman. When I first came into nursing 17 yrs ago - men were rare. It has taken some getting used to. We expect our male pts to just "deal" with the fact their female nurse will have to see their family jewels; but then we wouldnt dare (used to) send a male nurse in to place a catheter in a woman. In the last few years, I can recall several times in the Er where a pt got violent (male and female). If it hadnt been for the male nurses - Me and other staff could have been hurt. A pt will think twice about hitting or hurting someone if there is a man there to confront them. We all know that you (men) are very capable of being nurses. I believe that people who think male nurses are "feminine" have no clue what nursing is all about. So, thank you. I really believe you are a valuable asset to the profession. Maybe we should make a new thread....Advantages of having male nurses:there are alot!!
