I spoke with a couple MDs during my critical care rotation, who said that they may have gone into nursing if they had to do it again. Maybe they were trying to make us feel better about their decision, but one anesthesiologist I spoke with said he spent 6 years training beyond medical school. I think it takes a very dedicated person to go that route, but if that course of study gives the person inspiration, than it is worth it. People that undergo that course of study for the money and prestige are more prone to unhappiness, because they see their time spent as a waste perhaps.

I am a paramedic. After seeing with all the nurses have to put up with MD is looking good.

Hi appollo I think male Nurses are actually widely accepted and if anything are very much in demand. Having an all female floor of RN's isn't always the best thing for many reasons. I'd strongly consider looking into PA or NP school. Personally I feel if you won't be entering medical school in your 20's don't bother. Its just not worth it and I say that because of 100k's of debt, 3+ years residency working 80+ hours a week at 55k a year, and overall quality of life.

This is a great thread because Im currently doing my premed prereqs while trying to get into an ADN program. My goal is a BSN w/ the chance to get into med school. From everything I have learned,all I can say is this...

You become a doctor because you want to be the person making the decisions. You want to help a person and see them on your way. You dont become a doctor to spend time with your patients. It is very different from nursing. Nursing is the true care for the patients. Nurses are by their bedside for just about everything. The nurses get the patient contact, not the doctors.

There are lots of reasons NOT to go to medical school... $250k in loans, 4 years of hell (school), 3+ years of crappy pay and 80hour weeks... New doctors drive older cars than the nurses It takes a lot of dedication and "want" to overcome all those obstacles.


I personally want to be an ER doc. I LOVE the thrill of emergency medicine (used to be an EMT) and I just dont see nursing being where I truely want to be. Now, Im doing my BSN so I have something to fall back on and so I can stay at my home of emergency medicine.

I think as long as it's what you love to study, then it won't be so bad (hell), just lots of work. The science part is very fascinating to me. That is why, if I decide to go, go to med school. Probably a topic for a different post, but don't mid-levels call some of the shots?

Hi

I was reading this post and I get a flash back!!! In my country with 14 u got to know what u wont to do in life, so I get "stack " in nurse school, when I graduate I become an nurse aloud to give a medications , treat the wounds, transporting them to other unit, IV therapy, IV for tests, shots, etc, it take 4 years of my life, but I was happy withe that job.
After only 6 mo. i saw a OR male nurse, full of there self , proud what they are doing so I decide to upgrade my knowledge and get to high medicine school for anesthesiology technician, after 3 years of learning and practice a become one!!!
Now I was in OR in green uniform withe Dr withe respect from others and much more knowledge what was my primary goal!!
But there was some young Anesthesia Dr full of knowledge he was my mentor for my graduate exam!! We ware so good time in OR that they wont to hire me instantly, but my goals was much higher then because i know that i can!!
But now I am in the states and stack WO any license or certificate hire, and I cant do any job that I know and wont to do!!!
My planes was to take some license hire and start work as Nurse, then go higher and higher, but no one cant tell me where to go and what to bring with me fore license!!

hi.. m also finishing my nursing degree n planning for medicine n looking for different uni's and their study patterns..like oceania uni , uq .. if u find anything beneficial then dont 4get me..all d best

Nearly 60% of the medical doctors do not recommend others to go for medicines!
Anyhow, if you know what you wanna to become, I think you should go for it! Always follow your heart and dream in America!

Also, there is an RN to MD Program somewhere on this Earth!
