Okay so I found this forum and hopefully someone can give me guidance. I'm hoping to get into nursing school and I only have one semester left of prereq's. (Anatomy II, Micro and Life Cycle). The only trouble i'm having right now is with my advisor who has lied to me on several occassions so i'm looking elsewhere. The advisor told me that I am only eligible for Summer 2010, when in reality I can apply for Fall09. I currently have a Cumm. Gpa of 3.2, which i've been told isn't high enough to get into some programs. So my question to all you other nurses is what did you have when you got in, and what can I do besides apply to a bunch of schools. I'm only looking in Florida only and so far i've come across Uni. Florida, FSU, UMiami, Barry, South Uni., what happens if I don't get in? I've also talked to out of state schools but have pretty much been shut down since i'm a transfer student and not all the credits are the same....Sorry for ranting, but can someone give some guidance?

I will first say that I am not a nurse but I too am applying to nursing school. I have learned through my first degree that advisers don't know anything, this theory was supported when I was talking to an adviser for the nursing program. She had no idea what was going on and I actually had to explain the process. I think they get these people from a temp agency or something. Just do your own research and know exactly where you are as far as credits.

As far the schools you listed, look into all programs, even the 2 year programs if you haven't already. A rn is a rn is a rn. The ADN programs are fine and then knock out the BSN while you're working. Again, you might know all of this but I thought I would chime in.

Yeah its sad when the adviser can't even help. What is an ADN? I'm planning on joining the Military after I get my degree i'm in ROTC right now and because of not knowing that I may or may not get into nursing school I'm being forced to drop the program. Because I basically a junior in College I don't think going back and getting my RN would help as thats only an Associates degree right?

Well if you are planning to go into the military then yes I think it would help having a BSN would benefit you as far as the officer thing goes. ADN is the associates degree but and R.N ,registered nurse, is the license you get from a given state. I could go and get the ADN and will be a R.N. or I could go and get the BSN and still be a R.N. Which ever one you choose to get you still have to take the NCLEX to actually be able to practice as a nurse.

If you are aiming for the military, check with the Health Careers recruiters. Several of the branches (Army for sure) requires a BSN degree for entry.

If you want to join the military or a uniformed service, get your BSN first. Most require it anyways. It is a requirement to be an officer, and being an officer has much better benefits than being enlisted. In fact, you want to get a few years of critical care experience first, so if you do end up signing up as an officer, you will be super competitive and likely to get a position of your choosing, and previous experience is factored into your starting rank. And, you won't owe the service anything! That is, until they help you get your Masters

Who told you this?

Apply to as many schools as you can afford it. Make sure your essay rocks. make usre you rec letters are good. Do you have healthcare experience. One school oughta take you.
