Was I targeted by catty nurses?

by trimm

Most any place I have worked, I have been the lone male nurse. Most of the time there has been no problems until my last job when my nurse manager and one other nurse manager took a dislike to me for a reason unknown to me. They picked through my charting, my medex and tried to dig up anything they could on me. The finally convinced the new DON to fire me for little crap like not answering call lights and forgetting to fill out a form. Neither were true but I couldn't convince them.

I'd like to say I was jerk and deserved it, but I was probably the most popular charge in the building and was well liked by both residents and staff.

I have never been treated like that before and was wondering if anybody else had any stories of being singled out for being male by female staff. After I was fired, people would tell me it was because I worked with a bunch of women. Is there any truth to this?

From everything you read on this site, I would not jump to the conclusion that this is gender based. The real situation is that they would have done the same thing to another woman.

I would not allow them to define you or your performance. These kinds of women do that when confronted with someone who "threatens" their image.....more specifically, you are better, more talented, more well liked and therefore a threat. They will stab you in the back to get rid of the competition.

Move on. Not all women are like this and the ones that are.....will get theirs someday!

Hmm sure you didnt have my former administrator? I think you find cattiness no matter where you work and there is always at least 1 who rocks the boat. Bad energy breeds bad energy and it doesnt matter if you're male or female, if your on the bad end of someones ****list then you're there. They usually have a follower to back thier little games. There are others that are just intimadated that someone may be nicer, be liked more, or even be more knowledgable they they are. Hang in there and you will find a place that will be your niche.
