Help with applying...

Hi, my name's Randy. I just finished taking most of my prereqs and have received A's in all of them besides the ones remaining (Microbiology, and, if need be, statistics.... I got a B+ in statistics from my undergrad... but might consider taking it again just get that A). Anyway, I need advice on what to do now. I'm volunteering as we speak to gain experience and have found teachers willing to give me letters of recommendation based on my performance in these health classes, but at the same time I am being discouraged at the insane competition of schools in the Bay Area.

My overall GPA from UCI is really low. I received an overall GPA of only 3.1. And I guess I regret taking economics as my major as most of the classes I've taken with econ are the ones that the lowest. I beat myself everyday knowing maybe I should've taken something more that I was interested in (like sociology) so that I know I could've done better. In addition, my freshman year I was enrolled as an engineer and received a relatively low 1.9 GPA... so that held my GPA back since graduation.

Anyway, my original plan was to apply for the MSN program (1st choice SFSU), but now I realize that may be impossible with my GPA, even if I do have near a 4.0 with all my prereqs. People applying to SFSU have near 4.0's in both prereqs and overall GPA from college.

I need some advice because I really want to be a nurse. What steps do you think I should take now? My initial thought was just to go ahead and change directions I guess and apply for BSN programs, but those are just as competitive.

Apply everywhere you can.....I'd look into ABSN as well as MSN programs.....do everything u can to make yourself more competitive in other areas of the admissions criteria (TEAS/HESI, GRE, Interview, Letters of Rec, volunteer hours)...just keep focused and apply.....worst that can happen is they say no, but at least you'll know where u stand..........good luck
