Be real and honest in your essay and interview. Don't tell them what you think they want to hear - people can see through that. Answer their questions whith your mind and heart. Show them who you really are as a person (provided "who you are" is a reasonable person).

Be able to explain why you want to be nurse and not a scientist or physician.

Competive programs (ie not the lotery or wait list ones) usually give a few "points" for being a men, much the same way they give points for being and under represented minority. Male URMs are sitting pretty I guess. I went to a very selective program and a faculty member told me this.

Good luck! Becoming a nurse was one of the better decisions I have made.

During my Junior year, when we began our nursing courses and met the professors for the first time, they were very excited about how many males had entered into the program. Without a doubt we were the largest they ever had in a long time with an astonishing ....... 8 males ........ out of 50. The previous class had as little as 3. The new juniors from what I've seen so far has 4.

Take that for what it's worth. I can't really help you in terms of interview, as I had none. All I did was fill in a measly application ... but lucky me my experience so far has been excellent. Just be yourself. However be prepared to say something ---- remotely interesting ---- to the "Why do you want to become a nurse?" question. They asked that question in the first initial classes and I swear everybody had some sort of "personal calling" due to some past experience with nurses ... and here I was with nothing "good" to say ... except ... "It's a solid job for my future" nonsense .... at least I was honest at the time.
