From the Oregon Center for Nursing (http://www.oregoncenterfornursing.org/media.php), here's one of their efforts to bring more men into nursing. Moving from the male-dominated technology/business world to the female-dominated nursing world, I have problems with the image of nurses and the assumptions people make about them.

I've met plenty of driven, multitalented, ambitious people who want to help patients in different and more comprehensive ways than a doctor could.

But I don't care about negative images. I will achieve my goals, despite how many comments from ignorant people I get to the contrary. Posters like this help kick those stereotypes in the ass.

Would loved to have seen an LPN included in the mix...I guess the stereotypes never die

  10. My perdiction here is that we will see more men going into to nursing as our country continues to eliminate manufacturing jobs and corporate downsizing continues. Nursing jobs will be on the rise for the next few decades. There are still some that are stuck on a stigma of what a nurse looks like instead of a person who is a qualified caretaker. This is a good ad to show the public and promote males in nursing.

  12. I am. Cool poster.

There will be more men in the field but as it stands, there aren't that many who are applying for nursing school. Take for instance. We have 5 males out of 56 students. 10% ... sounds like the norm right?
