white scrub tops and males

Nurses Men

Published

So my current employer's uniform policy is navy, brown, or gray scrub tops and bottom or white scrub top with one of the other color pants. they are now requiring all nurses to wear white scrub tops and black or royal blue bottoms. Does anyone this that this is dumb looking on guys. I wear navy, that what all guys wear for the most part. but the hospital just got a new logo and wants the nurses to be distinguishable from other staff members. I pretty sure the patients know that there nurse isnt the person with the linen cart or cleaning cart and Drs ussually just ask people at the desk who has Mr. or Mrs. so and so. I just think that white tops look so dumb. I mean Im embarressed to get off and go out in public in white tops. it seems to me that they are not taking male nurses into consideration with this choice. Thoughts?

Yes. It's Gay. Totally gay.

And once you put on that white scrub shirt you will become totally gay...:heartbeat

Are you serious?

Men have worn white shirts to the office for decades. Milkmen wore white. Doctors & Dentists used to wear white smocks. Even some bud drivers wear white

What's the big deal?

Bwahahahaha!

Some are comfortable with their masculinity, some are not. That is all.

White scrubs are not necessarily feminine. Just be thankful they're not asking you to wear a cap.

;):nurse:;)

I was just waiting to see the responses....figured it would be entertaining since you used the "g" word. PC stuff what it is these days.

Anyway, don't overthink this, they are just scrubs. It not like they want all white or all pink or something ridiculous. You are the only one to see it this way. I wear blue with white top by choice, just not a big deal. Like what what was mentioned earlier, there are those really loving the old caps. I would have to draw the line there for sure.

BTW, never been a fan of the Navy whites. Gotta respect the MOH though!

I see what you're saying. At my hospital the nurses are to wear all white or navy, or a combo of the two. Most of the male nurses wear solid navy. I have only seen 2 male nurses wear a white top/bottom. I don't think wearing a white top is so bad, especially if you were to wear a navy blue shirt under it. I think it would be nice to switch things up a bit…

Now, men wearing long sleeved scrub jackets… that's another story… hahahahhaha ;)

I not sure but- being a nurse in and of itself isn't the most masculine of personas- the color of your uniform isn't going to macho it up very much. Another thought- I know it is the thing to do now-a-days, but I was always taught scrubs were not appropriate to wear outside of the hospital anyway. My first job (I'm a guy) nurses were required to wear the classic whites- polyester smock, polyblend doubleknit pants, white sox and shoes. That was a very cool look!.

Yikes. Did you just say "gay looking" and you're going to be a nurse?

1. Nurses need to be more PC than that.

2. Let's be honest, if you're worrying about looking gay, you probably shouldn't be a nurse. You need to be more comfortable in your sexuality than worrying about a color choice.

3. A white top for a man is a lot less of a problem than a white pant for a woman. just sayin...

My Dad was a healthcare worker and wore whites, shirts and slacks. There was nothing gay about him. Think your imagination is running overtime.

I don't think "gay" is an appropriate adjective to use here... I don't really see the issue with wearing white. The only reason I wouldn't want to wear white is that they get dirty too easily.

At least they gave you the option to wear colored bottoms... they could require all white

Hmmmm.... murder-dismemberment is a "civil rights violation", too, I understand. :D

Did you really just use the word "looking gay"?
