My boyfriend is about to become a nurse and this has me just disgusted and disappointed. Eve nin nursing school the wome nthrew themselves at him. Always trying to see if they could wedge their way in. Was hoping to be supportive of him, but what sort of professionalism is this? It's uncomfortable now having to deal with these women and with him in the hospital, visiting him with lunch etc. it seems likely a lifelong annoyance. Onc epiece of advice female nurses, back off, we girlfriend sand wives are not thrilled with you. How many times does a man need to say he's attached? Control yourselves. You are embarrassing to watch for the attached men too. Not every man wants chicks giggling and grinning like morons. Some men enter this profession to help people, you know...the patients? Remember them?
Just a word of experience....there aren't THAT many hot nurses out there and even less are there hot nurses that throw themselves at every male figure in the medical profession.....and if they are throwing themselves at men it will be the ones that make over a good six figures. Not a bedside nurse or student nurse struggling through school.....I'm wondering if your boyfriend is exaggerating JUST a LITTLE on the throws of female throwing themselves at his feet.

I feel your boyfirend may not be telling you the whole truth and is he really telling them he is not available. AND there isn't THAT much fooling around....trust me on this.

    Just food for thought.

Agreed !!!!!! As I've seen ... The only guys that get "harassed" are the ones that put it out there ! And in nursing school who has time to flirt ? And I agree when I look for someone it's not a fellow nurse it's a doc sorry .......

In response to the original posting: I agree that there is a bizarrely large amount of flirting and sexual innuendo in the medical field. I think it would be remiss to just focus on the nursing aspect of it. It is the RT's, Phlebotomists, PT's, Radiology dept, Nurse Techs, Transporters, CRNP's, MD's, RN's, etc. All these groups of people float around in the hospital flirting and making inappropriate comments to male/female co-workers all day. Perhaps it's because we're trained to walk into people's rooms and pull off their clothes and insert things into their (No No zones). We see and do gross and invasive things all day that violate modesty and human decency and are desensitized to it.

Perhaps this is why women feel free to get aggressive sexually and flirtatiously. I've actually listened to a (3rd shift) RN talk about how she doesn't like the smell after anal sex. Granted 3rd shifters are kinda odd, but still! I just try to remind people that I'm happily in a long term relationship with my nurse girlfriend and if I wanna talk dirty to a nurse it'll be her.

Wow, I wish I had the free time to flirt. In my experience, I have seen security, janitorial and food service staff flirting with CNA's. But, most of the nurses are too busy trying to get 18 hours of work squeezed into a 12 hour shift.

I think one would be hard pressed to find one of us who has not had the women flirting in the work situation. As much as most, if not all hospitals and employers would discourage this type of thing, it still happens all the time. I guess it all depends on how one handles the situation. I just brush it off and have a good laugh. It makes me feel great that the women find me attractive despite the fact that I'm gay LOL
But that makes it even better!!!! Because we know we can't give you what you want but we feel safe in doing it knowing forwell it won't go any further!!!!

I am an old lady, so there is no flirting. I am friendly by nature, and will make conversation when the situation warrants it.

As a pp said, the things we do and see desensitize nurses. No excuse for inappropriate "coming on" to ones co-worker, (and perhaps it is just an attempt--no matter how poor to lighten things up a tad)

It is curious, however, as to how many have made "the woman in rm 432 is here for her blah, blah, blah....giggle giggle, YA, I BET.....'' or some other such innuendo regarding patients.

Some people have no filter. And I am not thinking that boyfriends/husbands/wives need to get up in arms about this stuff. Poor reflection of one's own security in one's self, in one's relationship....and seriously, there is not a reason in the world that women and men can't be just friends--literally, just friends. Not every woman who is a nurse is throwing themselves at male nurses for sport.

And I really am not one to believe that all female nurses are one dimensional. Many have had lives and even some have had alternate careers before nursing. That is akin to saying that men who can not become doctors are nurses. Just ignorance.

Being friendly doesn't equate flirting. Not everyone wants you, wants your man, nor has the time or energy to pursue something other than a bathroom break, a meal break, and a hot shower and bed after a long shift.

Some people just need to get a grip, and get over themselves. Most female nurses do NOT aspire to get into a big drama with y'all.

I flirt with them - not because I'm interested, but because I'm gay. They love it!
I keep that in mind, but it doesn't bother me and I'm not a flirty person(since I married my bf). However, I'm not a nurse, but a pre-nursing student.

I wouldn't be able to focus on flirting and taking care of my patients and their best interests simultaneously
