Scrubs for Men in Peds

Hi everyone!

I'm about to start my first nursing job at the Children's Hospital as a Pediatric RN. When I had my clinical rotations there, I didn't see any male nurses in my unit (although I know that several do work there), so I only saw female nurses wearing all sorts of scrubs, from pink to polka dots to cartoon characters. I wanted to know if other fellow male nurses working in pediatrics wear neutral-/solid-colored scrubs or wear scrubs with prints and a bit more color.

Most of the men I work with that work with a peds population wear solid color scrubs, but some wear scrub tops that are comic book or superhero character themed.

I'd like to wear those types of scrubs--Scooby Doo, superhero characters, comic book characters--but I'm having trouble finding them. I checked a few websites but all they have are two or three prints, one of which I thought might look good.

I've never done business with this company, so can't vouch for them, but I found this site: top spot 4 u. They seem to have a decent selection of prints that might work for you. Their scrub tops are a bit pricey, in my opinion, but may be worth the cost so you can get what you want. Good luck with your new job!

I think it would be really adorable and fun to wear Super Hero scrubs or sports scrubs. Try looking up Tooniforms.

How long did it take you to hear back from Children's? I graduated in December and passed my NCLEX last week. I applied for 2 positions at Children's in the PICU & CICU. I've always wanted to work at Children's so I really really hope I get a call back. The postings were just listed, so I don't know how long it will be for me to hear something. Any tips on how to get in there?

If you can't find scrubs that work for you, I would suggest having some made for you. Most large fabric stores have a ton of 'manly' but fun prints... like Cars cartoons or Bob the Builder. They also have the names of reputable 'sewers' (don't want to call them seamstress cause it may be off-putting for you - LOL) that can whip them up pretty quickly for a very reasonable price. They're very easy to make.

I hope you're not serious. Some of the best nurses I have ever seen to work on children are males. This attitude does not belong in healthcare or anywhere else.

Poster went on a craze and posted strange messages on several threads. Clearly most reasonable people believe both women and men can and do well in peds.

I almost always wore cartoon characters back when I worked peds, the kids seemed fascinated. I had a decent collection of Disney tops. Wore solid scrub pants.

I just bought regular scrubs for my tele job, but the scrub shop had batman and superman tops. If I was working peds, I would totally be down to wear that there!
