Annoying female coworker conversations

Nurses Men

Published

Hey fellow men in nursing! I'm a student about to graduate nursing school this May and a hospital CNA of 5 years. I just want to stoke up some camaraderie about those annoying female conversations that we, as men and nurses, hear most frequently on our down time at school or work.

I particular colleague of mine in my clinical group, whom I like very much, talks INCESSANTLY about her boyfriends 3 year old girl who she plays mommy to because she does not have children. I'm constantly enlightened with what cute thing the child did this day or how she corrected the child for misbehaving. This fellow student is 27 y/o and is wanting to be married and start a family in the worst way.....I'm 22 and I'm not there yet....

I would never say anything rude to her about this, I just grin and nod.

Has anyone here experienced anything similar?

PS-don't even get me started on my OB/Peds rotation in school.... :p

Nothing quite says "y'all best be moving offa my property" like the sound of racking a mossberg 500.

I used to work night shift with a very rotund RT. He worked hard and had a nice house in a nice neighborhood, a nice family, and two labrador retrievers. The bad thing about the nice house in the nice neighborhood was that he got a lot of solicitors ringing his doorbell to sell him aluminum siding, new roofing or their own special brand of religion. One afternoon while he was sleeping, the doorbell rang and, predictably, the dogs started barking at the doorbell. His bedroom was right above the front door.

"I heard a giggle," he said, "so I looked out the window. And there were those two teenaged boys with the black pants, white shirts and black ties -- Jehovah's Witnesses or Mormons. They were laughing at the dogs barking."

Then the doorbell rang again, the dogs started barking wildly and the boys outside giggled. The third time they rang the doorbell, Gordon lost his temper, grabbed his shotgun and was waiting at the front door when they rang the bell the fourth time. Clad only in his tighty whiteys, Gordon flung the door open and with one hand, racked the shotgun. "Scared 'em so bad they wet their pants," he says proudly. "And ran off like the hounds of hell were after 'em!"

I can just see it -- a 400 pound 40ish white guy wearing nothing but sagging jockey shorts and holding a shotgun -- it must have been scary as hell!

I was hoping you meant Merckens as in chocolate.... Not the other merkins

How many women have replied to this post? Only reason I ask is that it is clearly a "men in nursing" forum. I wouldn't do that to a "female only" thread. This may be directly related to the original idea set forth. I wouldn't barge in on an "African American" thread and act like I had a clue what is was to live as a black man.....

Hahahahaha

I wanted to say this but I didn't wanna start (yet another) fire fight on this forum so I kept my mouth shut

But at the risk of sounding sexist and Misogynistic i agree, it never made much sense to me women chiming in on a males point of view in the MALES section of the forum. Talk about the wrong part of town

:) Hilarious! I had to look it up, too....I thought maybe it was some sort of cute animal (along the lines of a meerkat)....wow, was I wrong.

I don't think there are "males only", "females only", "African Americans only" threads allowed on this site. So just like the OP has to deal with "female" conversations while working among predominately females, you will have have to deal with all the females chiming in.

I suppose if the OP had more of an amen corner among the women posting, this wouldn't be a problem.

There's no "only" anything on this site you're correct. But the sections of this forum are specifically titled for the designated audience--meaning posting in a "Mens in Nursing" section implies the desired response from you know..other "Men In Nursing"

We're free to speak our minds and vocalize our opinions about anything we want, anywhere we want, whether anyone wants to hear it or not--this is one of our rights allotted to us as Americans, and in a sense is essentially the basis of this entire discussion.

With that said, that goes back to what exit96 said

Not to say you CAN'T..but ..you know..

Pointless. Everyone knows that 9mm's are useless little popguns. Colt .45's rule!!

And we have a whole 'nother thread. My 9mm fits in my hand, the hollow point and my aim .. will do the job just fine.

Hard to believe you would post a sexist response to a sexist question.

This is an OPEN forum. The OP was questioning female behavior in the workplace.

Both he and you should value and learn from ANY and all responses.

I want to personally applaud the original poster of this topic for so excellently rustling the female jimmies on this website.

I worked on construction sites and martial arts studios most recently that were predominately male. Oh, and I've worked on cars a lot, too. I'm sure the women present had to put up with a lot of our conversations that they did not want to hear. I'm not offended by the fact they were probably [rightfully] annoyed by the conversations.

Had a blast reading the responses though. Made sure to go pop some popcorn first.

grow some, dude...if you don't like it speak up.

OR just grow up and learn how to engage in polite behavior in the workplace

I talk about guns, hunting, hiking, camping, bicycling, Alaska, and my granddaughter. I am certain that not all of my coworkers are terribly interested in all of those topics.
