Thanks, I hear ultrasound sonography is actually better than x-ray. I'm not sure how true that is though. Is there advancement in those fields? Or would I be like a tech forever? I feel like nursing is more versatile with many specialties than both. Although, my counselor said xray techs go into mri techs and ect and sonographers can do all sorts of things like the liver, brain, etc not just the abdomen. I;m definitely not going into nursing or tech fields for the money but I would like to go to school and study something I love that also brings in a good pay check. My parents want me to do whatever I want and I got angry because my cousin who is a teacher with a BA degree was like "Xrays and Sonography are for people who dont want to go to college."

I've been a nurse for over 30 years and I love doing it. I also have 2 relatives that work in the x-ray field. It depends what it is you want to do and what you will like. You will work all hours and shifts in both, but I think you will probably make more money in x-ray and not have as much responsibility as nurses do. If I have it to do over, I would probably go into x-ray because the stress would be less. But I would miss being in charge of things.

    hi Daytonite,

I am debating whether or not to go into nursing as a career. I am 21 years old, I live at home and would like to go into a career with a good future. I live in Northern NJ where I hear nurses make great money but more importantly I've always wanted to work in the medical field. I took Anatomy 1 and 2 and received both A's and I'm wondering if nursing is for me. Of course I love to help people and being in such a versatile career would be amazing. But, I am also interested in Ultrasound Sonography. I;m kind of scared looking at all these posts of people saying to "say goodbye to family and friends for 2-4 years during NS." Its scary for me to see that. I don't know if I can handle the stress! I worked in a hopsital and ALL the nurses looked horrible and told me I should run away from this field. But, I'm determined to be in the med field. I saw a lot of your posts and you seem like a very knowledgeable nurse or manager, not sure which you are. Can you help me with my decision? If you work in a hospital I'm sure you know somewhat of US techs. They seem less versatile than nurses but less stressed also. I have to decide soon because I have to apply within the next month to some schools. Also, would you recommend me going straight to BSN or Associate degree nursing? Thanks so much Daytonite

I don't know OB. I have to see all the figures and then work it by DA. I usually have to look it up in my medication book as well to make sure I am getting the units correct. My saving grace is that I am a math wiz.

    Hello Daytonite!
I need your help if you don't mind. I'm currently in maternity/peds and we have our math test on Wednesday that I have to make a 100% in. Not only do I want to pass, but I want to be a safe nurse. My teacher is a little unclear and gave us a handout related to the maternity portion of the test. She said "I want you to focus on Oxytocin (Pitocin) 20 U per 1000ml. 1 milliunit per 3ml. Magnesium Sulfate 40G per 1000ml. I'm confused whether this is what I need to have memorized to do all of these types of problems or if she just wanted us to memorize that for the two problems that she gave. We use the book Clinical Calculations with Application to General and Specialty Areas 5th edition by LeFever Kee and Marshall. She said don't worry about ch. 13 in the book it'll confuse you, just work on the two problems I gave you. To me, that's not enough, especially when we have to make a 100%. Sorry for babbling on to you but you seem very helpful and knowledgable. Do you know of any websites that I could practice on, or any helpful tips? I appreciate all your help and everything you do for allnurses. They need to start paying you

Thank you very much for the analgesic effects on the liver information. That is amazing. And thank you for the handouts. I am very grateful.
