I saw your post about your hospital hiring new nurses. Are they still hiring new nurses? Which hospital do you work for? I am in NJ and I can't get a job here. I have tried PA but I haven't tried NY yet.

    Hi Steve,
I contacted you last year sometime about Columbia's NNP and I am now finally getting my things together. I sent an app for NY license last week and have been checking a few hospitals for jobs almost daily but there's nothing out there except for 1 prn position, and nothing at CHONY NICU. I have 1.5 years exp in adult CICU and 1 year exp in Level III NICU (everything except open heart and ECMO). I want to attend Columbia's NNP program, possibly starting in 2010. Could you please give me your 2 cents? Get a job first, then get into NNP? Or if I apply for NNP and get in will a hospital create a position for me? Get in through a travel agency, hope for a FT job? (I keep thinking that 1 year of experience won't cut it for travel and that I should just apply for full time position).
Any advice would be of great help.

    Thank you

    Jelena

Nope- it only says post a visitor message, there's no option for private messages. I'm sorry, maybe I need to have more posts first or a different type of membership?

    Hi Steve,

I am an occasional all nurses lurker and noticed that you are a Neonatal NP student at Columbia. I am interested in their program and was wondering if I could ask you a few questions?

    Thank you

    Hi,

I am a new graduate RN and I recently read your post regarding a contact for the nurse recruiter for CHONY. Would you be able to send me the contact information for this person? I am having trouble trying to apply to NYP because everytime I apply online, I get an email reply telling me they don't hire new graduates, when they obviously do. Thank you.

Hey, Steve. I just read the entire, book-length thread about your forthcoming travel assignment to California. To say I'm jealous is an understatement. I was born and raised in LA and love Southern California intensely. I don't know if you've settled on an area yet, but if you still want some input from a native son, don't hesitate to let me know. I'd need to know a bit more about you and what you want or are looking for in a place to live, but I'm happy to toss some ideas out. California, as you have probably found out, is an extremely varied and diverse state. Living in San Diego, for instance, is 180-degrees different than living in, say, Redding. Where you'd be happiest depends to a good extent on what you're looking for. Let me know if you want another opinion or two, and I'd be happy to share mine. Cheers.....Donn
