What was the reason the supervisor said you had to do an incident report? The resident was restrained when you came to care for him...did you put the restraints on? What would he have a reclining G/C, chest, and waist belts? If you did not put the restraints on, then was the resident left alone at any time? I am having trouble imagining why he would have three different restraints...tell me more..

DEDRN0417, IT SEEMS YOU ARE VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT RESTRAINTS. i HAVE A ? ABOUT GERI CHAIRS AND AN INCIDENT THAT OCCURRED. I HAD A NURSE MANAGER TRY TO ACCUSE ME OF LEAVING A PT IN AN UNSAFE CONDITION. THE PATIENT WAS IN A RECLINING GERICHAIR WITH A FOOT REST AND WAS BELTED IN ACROSS THE CHEST AND WAIST AND HE WAS ACROSS THE NURSES STATION. I ASKED THE NURSE TO WHEEL HIM INTO HIS ROOM WHICH WAS ALSO ACROSS THE STATION. I PERFORMED THE PICC CARE AROUND THE 2 RAILS ON THE CHAIR AND THE PATIENT SLEPT THROUGH THE ENTIRE PROCEDURE. I TOLD THE NURSE TO COME BACK IN 10 MINUTES AS I WOULD BE DONE. I LEFT HIM IN VIEW OF THE NURSES STATION PASSED OUT AND RESTRAINED. I REFUSED TO WRITE AN INCIDENT REPORT B/C NOTHING HAPPENED!!!!!!. HE WAS WHEELED BACK OU TO THE NURSES STATION WITHIN 5 MINUTES OF COMPLETION OF THE PROCEDURE. I ALSO NOTICED THAT HE WAS LEFT IN THAT CHAIR FOR AT LEAST NINE HOURS THAT I OBSERVED. IF ANYTHING IT SEEMS THEY ARE AT FAULT FOR USING THE GERI CHAIR FOR NURSE CONVENIENCE. I READ THE STATE AND CALIF REGULATION BUT I REALLY WANT YOUR OPINION IF YOU WOULD BE SO KIND
