Story behind the 10-lb chess board on the toes:
It was 1 am, I was packing up things for the Junior League's rummage sale.
Dropped it from about 4 feet, smack across the tarsal/metatarsal junction.
I literally saw stars. Knocked the wind out of me, and I thought I might pass out.
Called my husband at work - he's a cop - and choked out that I was hurt, needed to go to the ER and could he come home?
Not 2 minutes later, the sergeant from this district was literally busting down my door, and I heard ambulance sirens in the distance...yup, you guessed it. He called EMS!
I was still crying, but had recovered enough breath to convey I wasn't mortally wounded...but I can honestly say out of childbirth, numerous surgeries and other painful things, that had to rank among the top 3.
