Thanks for the great info. Was it difficult to get into the residence program? How did you find info on that?

I moved here from west virginia just a couple months ago with the hopes of getting into the GEMS program actually, but once I got here, I found that the GEMS program is ran out of the Wakemed hospital (which is owned by Duke). So instead, I was hired into the residence program. They asked me to shadow 2 or 3 units that I would be interested in working in, and then interview with the units afterward. It worked out great for me because I got to meet the nurses on the units I was interested in and to see how each unit ran. As part of the residence program, I will orientate on my unit just like I would anywhere else and in addition, I will meet with the other resident nurses once a month for a year. Hope this helps.

I saw that you got hired at Duke as a new grad. I will also graduate in May. I want to work at Duke as well but I am worried I won't get into the GEMs program. Are you in the GEMs program or did you get hired directly into the unit or floor?
