- Describe number of years/ type of educational experience
I worked as an ER Tech and EMT during Nursing School (ADN) and graduated in 2006.
Describe the difference roles in which the individual has worked in health care
I began as an EMT working on an ambulance crew. I then worked as an ER Technician. Once I became a Nurse, I moved to a rural area and worked there. I had to learn and be comfortable with all types of patients- ER/Psych/OB/Postpartum/Peds/Med/etc.
Explore how professionalism is incorporated in their role as a nurse
Hmm. Well, I am constantly having to interact with both patients and doctors and learn to mediate and advocate in a way that is non-threatening. I also have to learn to work with ALL types of people. In a team atmosphere, you have to swallow pride on a regular basis and try to do what is best for the team. It can be tough!
Determine what advice each would offer to a person beginning the nursing profession
Learn early and get comfortable with standing up for patient rights. It can be very intimidating to stand up to a doctor, but it is your job and one of the most important ones you might have to do!
Discuss the advice they would offer for the nursing student as they work toward the completion of their degree.
Man, you can do it! It is the toughest thign I ever had to do and I thought I might go insane, but it was so worth it. It opens up doors I never imagined. It seems impossible, but it isn't, and it all becomes useful, even when you think it is a 'dumb' assignment.
In addition to the questions being anwsered, I would also need for the nurse to e-mail my teacher with their name, title, and letting her know you anwsered interview questions for me.
