Hi martinosa, I've only posted on the CSUS thread that I created so you've probably seen my name there. Sorry to hear that you didn't get into UCLA! Like you, I am a guy and I have a bachelors from a UC (you can probably guess which campus by my allnurses member name). I wanted to apply to UCLA MECN but was discouraged by the seemingly lack of explanation of what a "Clinical Nurse Leader" is, so I didn't end up applying.
CSU Sacramento had an ABSN program (admissions based 50% on prereq GPA and 50% on the GRE) that just got canceled this year due to budget issues, but it was a 15 month program leading to a BSN. Now, they've placed the ABSN applicants like me with their normal 2 year BSN program. The deadline to start this fall has already ended for CSUS, but the deadline to start in spring 2010 is August 31 for their normal 2 year program (which is GPA/TEAS based). I like CSUS because they have clinicals at UC Davis, where I hope to get a MSN eventually when the nursing school opens there. I decided to go for ABSN programs because I wasn't ready to choose a masters specialty for CNS/NP programs like UCSF. The CSU Sacramento nursing website (
http://www.hhs.csus.edu/NRS/index.asp) has more info.
Just wondering, how's the job market in Socal? It's terrible in Norcal and making me think twice about applying to nursing school while all my classmates are going for Pharm/Med.
