#3 And I know that if I ever needed anything other Officers would have my six.
\It sounds like all fun and games but, for instance, the APFT is taken very seriously. IF you are a No Go, you won't be allowed to attend TDY/schools. You are expected to maintain your fitness at all times. MY S.O. still lives on the East Coast and I am here at Fort Bliss (El Paso). My kids didn't have a hard time with my decision to "run off and join the Army" but they are young men now. I talked to my recruiter in December 2008, got the paperwork all together and submitted and found out I was accepted Feb 28 2008 right before I was to ship out to El Salvador on a medical mission! I PCS-ed May 1 2008, so it has been one year.
I do not regret my decision. I am very happy. I just finished a project that was kind of dumped into my lap, and I come to find out I will be awarded an AAM for my efforts. Much better than a Nurse Week mug, don't ya think?
    With love and respect,
    mary

You will be held accountable for your words and actions, but you also will have your chain of command behind you, as well. Our HN (the MAJ) is very pro-nursing and everyone (civilian and military alike) are strongly encouraged to go on with their education, to attend out-of-state conferences and lectures, to obtain their CCRN etc.We take care of Service members, their dependents, the retired, civilian injuries/trauma. I have yet to be cursed at, spit at to be continued

    Hi Edie!
Well, I hadn't been qualified within the last 2 years in the M16, so I am pretty sure my name is off the EFMB list, at least for this year! Once I come back from Deployment (September 2009) I will make sure I am qualified and put my name on the list for 2010!
You ask if I find being AD different and fulfilling, and my response would be YES. Besides the extreme sense of pride I have IN MYSELF, it is nice to be considered a true part of something bigger than yourself. Duty, Honor, Country is not a hollow phrase for me, nor is it for you, as well ( I would expect, from your previous postings)Being in the Active side of the house = Respect from others, something you often don't hear or receive from civilian nursing, and I was a civilian nurse for a really LONG time, smile. Yes, Officers are often the first to arrive and the last to leave, and yes many of the civilians don't "really get it" But you will be entering a different type of family life.
    to be continued

Unfortunately, I dont have AKO/HRC access. My recruiter wont "sponsor" me. He said "I could, but you wouldn't have access to your record anyway through a sponsored account". ..... whatever... the more I mess with this the more angry I become.

    Hi,

Below is some info on the Public health course from the ANC "special schools" website. I just found out today that "Regular Army" just accepted my packet and I ran down there and signed the contract immediately.....before they could change their mind!!!

The process of going to the Regular Army (Active) is not too bad, it does require alot of letters of recommendation from supervisors, peers, your Unit CO and chief nurse. I was put on the "scroll" at the last minute in Feb (as a BIG favor by a "high-up--old boss" of my recruiter). The application was stalled because my Form 368 (conditional release from reserves) was stuck at brigade awaiting a signature. Yesterday, a "facilitator" for the Army CRNA program phoned them-----and low and behold. my packet was approved today......amazing what a phone call or 2 will do (from the right people).

So, I start the CRNA program in June. My kids are grown ....they think I'm crazy!
If you are interested in the Active side of the house.....put your packet through before you go to OBLC, because it is 9 weeks long instead of 3.5!

    Good Luck!
    cindy
    Your info.........

OMG! Ya'll sound just like us!!! LOL! The parenting style differences is why we didn't get married sooner. He is old school Army and "likes his house tidy" which is his euphamism for immaculate. He expects abject compliance with his 'orders' from his kids. I am more permissive and my kids would have dug in their heels and all hades would have broken loose!!!!

I hope ya'll work things out too! Merging families can be SO tough!
