theres a good chance that youll get accepted.we need a lot of nurses.i heard that the interview tom's for direct hire.anyway, dress appropriately:corporate attire.theyre strict regarding that.bring ballpen, original requirements & 2x2 picture.also bring a snack (biscuit, etc.)&water so that you wont get hungry if interview starts late.speak in straight english.think &analyze the question before you answer.be honest.answer the question the best way you could.it doesnt have to be the best answer just as long as the rationale is correct.they ask different kinds of questions:direct questions(like what are the 5 moments of handwashing?)while other are scenarios.anyway, just relax.its okay to be nervous tom but dont let that pull you back.ive been with people who gave wrong answers to the some interview questions but got accepted anyway.but, its still better to be safe and give the correct answers.dont forget to pray.tell me how your interview went &who are those who interviewed you.good luck!

going to different hospitals to apply will really cost you a lot! i have been commuting around metro manila to apply... there will be some that will accept, but most rejected... saying they're freeze hiring. but my efforts paid off... i've been accepted by 6 hospitals and i'm for interview at 3 hospitals. of course i declined the rest because i've decided to work already at one of those hospitals.

with regards to your st. lukes application, you could apply again after 6 months. i heard they're still accepting applicants. a friend of mine just got a call from them for the exam.

with regards to the technical exams... hmmm... the questions are mostly situational. they will give you a situation then you will choose an answer... it's usually multiple choice. then there's always the computation part. i tell you, volunteer nurse experience helps a lot with this... i found it easier to answer the computation part on the exams i took because i compute my patients meds and IVs everyday! there's a hospital that has an NCP part on their exam. we were asked to write 5 nursing dianoses about a case and 10 interventions. as long as you did (and not just copied) your NCPs when you were a student, this NCP part will be easy. another hospital has 10 items fill-in-the-blank normal values of RBC, WBC, Na, Ca, K, Crea, etc.! hahaha! i don't know how i passed that exam since hindi ko naman memorize yung mga values! i guess binawi ko from other parts of the exam! hahaha! i have also encountered an exam that's soo basic na ang hirap sagutan! yung as simple as fever, ROM exercises, yung mga ganon na i took for granted... anyway, i did pass the exam. from what i've encountered, the exams are more on MS... minsan may naliligaw na OB and Pedia.

sa interviews naman... usually they ask you first about yourself. the questions vary... usually MS.. but i've been asked questions about psych, OB, Pedia, and OR! just try to answer it the best way that you could and try to defend or give a good rationale to your answer. they usually ask about the intervention or management that you will do. they'll also ask you about your future plans... and if you have any plans to go abroad. i think it is best to just be honest. they also usually ask what you can offer to their hospital if given a chance to work there.

ok, there you go... i hope this helps. good luck!

    thank you abby gael...

have you tried going to the small hospitals also? because when i was looking for work, i found out that the small hospitals tend to accept applications as compared to the big tertiary hospitals. of course we all want to work at those tertiary hospitals, but we have to start somewhere right? before i got in at mmc, i volunteered at a secondary hospital... and it has helped me to refresh my nursing knowledge and skills... which i found useful when applying and taking the exams and interviews at tertiary hospitals. what city are you from here in metro manila? i might know some hospitals in your vicinity that accepts applications.

with regards to your prc license... that sucks big time!!! you mean after 8 mos they still don't have your license??? did you take the NLE here or in the province? do you know people who still haven't got their license? yours is the only instance that i know. well, the absence of a license will make it really difficult for you to apply since most hospitals require that you have a license.

    strategies??? hmmm...
well, i guess what helped me gain an edge over the others is that i didn't stop... don't stop looking for experience. not only work experience, but also volunteer, interviews, exams. as i mentioned in one of my posts, i even went to interview in call centers even if i don't have any plans to work there because of the experience. when you're called for an interview in a hospital, you have to be really good... it's like a make or break moment! you have to be at your best... and interview at call centers, etc. helps a lot. i have been to a lot of interviews, hospital and not, and it has helped me to reduce stammering, feeling less nervous, and more confident. taking those written exams helps too!

did you try applying at st lukes global city last year? they accepted applicants even if they didn't have their licenses yet.

hope to hear from you again and good luck!
