Yeah, I just read it. I don't know, if it's only two days a week, I don't think it should be that bad driving to the south bay. Hopefully we'll have classmates assigned to the same place so we could take advantage of the carpool lane

    Hey congratulations!
I don't think there's anything at the BRN about microbio, but if it's a good class and not overworking you, it's not bad info to have in your arsenal. Up to you though. I took it, and I've found that it's helped me understand evidence-based practice when we're talking about microbes. If you're concerned, call and ask UCSF's nursing dept.
Again, congratulations! Make sure you take some time off for yourself to just chill out before you start the program. We have two weeks of this quarter left and I am very ready for a long nap....

Congratulations to you as well! I work in Berkeley and used to live there back when I was at Cal. I actually would love to have a whole new life and move to SF, but you're right about the cost and the possibility of having clinicals in the east bay (hopefully not the south bay .... so far). I am going to look for housing in SF, but it's comforting to know that if I don't find anything, I'm close enough to UCSF that I can just stay where I am. Take a lot of stress off! And I hear groups of students carpool, so maybe we could find a couple more ebayers and carpool and split the cost of parking in the garage. It would be the same cost as commuting via bart and muni and we would get there more quickly! Let's keep each other posted, and I can't wait to meet you and the rest!

Hey Sonja! No worries, I'm *happy* to answer questions. I wore a double-breasted jacket, nice shirt and black slacks on interview day. Suit-like. I agree, you can never be overdressed. I also took out my nose piercing, and toned down my jewlery. Although it's SF, I wanted to look professional. I do remember specific questions. Know: Why an MSN vs a BSN... why are you so sure about a Master's? Why Nursing? The ever-present "Tell me about yourself" (dear god I felt like I was going to stab my eyes out with that one). The nurse manager asked me questions like, "Have you ever been in a situation of conflict with a fellow co-worker? What did you do to resolve it?" (stay professional, talk to my co-worker before going to a supervisor) "Have you ever worked in a multi-cultural environment? What was your experience? I had two very conversational people. We talked a lot about them as well as me. One thing to remember is that faculty do research. If you have a moment, check them out on the website and find out what they're studying. I didn't do that and I still got in, but a friend did that and found that it helped. I was asked, "what are you most afraid of?" (Making a mistake that kills a patient was my answer. My interviewer replied, "that never really goes away, I totally understand.") What did I do to prepare? Chilled out, knew the nursing philosophy vs the PA/MD philosophies, knew a little about UCSF, and took myself to a nice dinner the night before hand. What I wish I had done? Slept more the night before. Sheesh. I know you're nervous but you have a 50/50 chance of getting in now. The best thing you can do is relax, imagine yourself as a nurse 5 years from now (ooo! That was another question!), and plan where you're gonna have a beer that night. My number is (707) 225-5321 if you want to call me. I won't answer on Thursdays/Fridays. Good luck! Nicole
